Dombrandt got far more of a chance in an England shirt than most
get if they don't perform. In fact, Ben Earl is a good example
of a player largely ignored despite incredible club form. Ben
       Spencer another.

Earl had a long period of making a lot of mistakes to go with
his good work. Lots of handling errors, bad missed tackles, and
poor work in contact allied to some brainless penalties in most
matches made it fairly clear why he wasn't fully trusted. He
worked hard on all of these, improved hugely, and reaped the
       rewards.
Spencer has the occasional highlights game and given his
skillset should have had more of a chance at international
level, but he's never put in the consistent club level
performances over time of some of the players who did get more
       chances.

(Also Ben Earl was ignored for essentially one season - he has
25 caps and played for England every season since 18/19 bar one)

Yes, as I said, Dombrandt got a much better chance as a starter,
repeatedly, to prove he was test class before he got binned.
Spencer got 14 minutes across 3 matches in 10 years.

Dommers looks like he’s lost a bit of weight over the summer but
is still playing very well for us. Alex has excellent handling
skills and I always felt that when playing for England he was
too much ahead of what was happening. Not having players on his
wavelength meant that he would be expecting a pass that would
come too slowly or he would be thinking that someone would be
there ready but they weren’t. This made him look bad . England
don’t play quick ball rugby which is what he’s used to. I think
this is always a problem for England where you get a constant
turnover of players who never get used to playing Club mode and
England mode. Having significant numbers from a couple of clubs
that play similar styles like Borthwick’s World Cup squad should
help this but ultimately we’re never really tested until the
       semi.
England lack a big no8 at the moment and I still think
the Genge could make the transition. He’s great around the pitch
but an average scrummager and easy to replace. The Six Nations
squad will indicate in which direction SB will be going in. I
have a horrible feeling it’s going to be more of the same even
though there have been some retirements.

I think Billy Vunipola could extend his test career by becoming
a prop subject to seeing of he's any good there of course.

It depends what you want in a prop. Judging by his brother,
scrummaging doesn't run in the famiy...

Spencer wasn't obviously one of the best choices for any real
length of time, or at least not obviously better than the other
candidates queued up behind Ben Youngs.
Dombrandt got a good chance in the last 12 months. Despite being
one of the best 8s in the country for a fair few years now. It
took 3 years of tearing it up before he got his first cap.
Earl was picked for England the same season he become undisputed
starter for Saracens and kept getting picked but never nailed
down the shirt, leading to one season when he wasn't picked at
all. It's incredibly one-eyed to pretend he was "ignored".

If we’re mulling positional changes, the one that I’d like to
see is Farrell tried at 15.
He has all the right characteristics to be a very effective
fullback - positional awareness, physicality, the kicking game
and sufficient pace, plus he could join the line and direct the
attack. It would allow for Smith or Ford to play 10 and run the
attack, while having the security of a game manager on the
       pitch.
I’m not saying it would necessarily work - but I’d like to see
       it tried.

By picked you obviously mean started in the England first XV
       like Dombrandt had don't you?
       Idiot.
