I can remember clearly both the tries that I scored even though
they were almost 40 years ago. See your local press for details
of the celebrations planned to mark these anniversaries.

Totally understand the point of view, but it'll be gone in 5
years if that's what it does.
There aren't more middle aged male rugby fans around to sell
tickets to, we're already selling as many tickets as we can to
them.
If the sport doesn't find a new audience it's not going to make
it - that's why money is going into women's football and rugby,
for example. There are far more opportunities to make more money
from attracting new people who don't currently regularly watch
sport than there are by serving an existing audience.
So I totally get why some people get a bit annoyed by all the
bells and whistles around the Quins stuff - but Dalrymple looks
like he understands very well that you have to turn it into an
entertainment offering to keep it going.
The reality is, unfortunately, it might put some more
traditional fans off, but it's a trade off they might have to
decided to make.

I wonder if or how the style of rugby played on the pitch feeds
into this question. As a very long-term Quins fan I am generally
celebratory about the way Quins play, if I may drop in the
"Quins DNA" cliche. I realise others may think my viewpoint is
untenable in the rugby economy, but I would rather Quins hold
true to their style and not always win, than win more often by
kick-fest or stuff-it-up-the-jumper routines. My son, who
supports Sale, reckons that Quins have much more support
generally around on social media than many other clubs. He says
content about Quins will get many 1000s more followers than many
other clubs. This can't be just because the home shirt is
attractive!

Dad?
This is veering off topic but I think Quins are very good at
their social media and using it to attract new fans. For me
though, the style is somewhat ... OTT. I'm sure it works on
current Quins fans and does well at showing the players/club in
a great light for newbies.
As neither of the above it does sometimes smack of being
somewhat self-congratulatory. If you keep showing everybody
clips of yourself being great, it is easy to make people believe
that you're great.
But then I'm not the target audience.

I think Quins are helped in their social media by the style of
play, we have videos of Green diving over the try line or Smith
making runs through defenders or making massive drop goals. I'm
not sure you'd have the same impact watching last year's Exeter
drive over from 5m.
I started supporting Quins after going to the 2011 double header
at the start of the season and enjoying Quin's way of playing
more than any of the other teams.
We saw a drop in attendance and interest in the Kingston and
Gustard eras because we were playing boring rugby (and badly).

I'm all for the Quins 'DNA'. I want to watch attacking, runnning
rugby. However, I'm conscious of not being too haughty about it.
It's important we have a sport where alternative and differing
style can flourish.
That said, we had an early festive gathering at ours on Sunday
so naturally I put Racing v Quins on. The more casual rugby fans
commented on how entertaining it was in comparison to
"kick-fest" International rugby.

Again, I appreciate that I may be in the minority here but
having a clip of Green's diving try is one thing. Describing a
Marler ankle wrap as "the perfect tackle" is edging towards
hyperbole.
