       Not to mention the size and physicality. Seeing the great Bill
       Beaumont dwarfed by today's second rows was the perfect example.

       20 years ago, they were already full time professionals.
       Back on Bill's era they were semi-pro at best, the boot money
       just about paid the bar bills.
       Training is more intense, strength and conditioning is better -
       even in the lower leagues.
       For those reasons, I would back the top National One sides /
       bottom end of the Championship against Bill's Grand Slam side at
       their peak.
       Of course a modern side would struggle with a 1980s laws and the
       referee's interpretation of them - not to mention the old
       leather ball.

       There were laws back then? And referees? I thought second rows
       sorted out any disputes back then and agreed to differ.....until
       the third half!
