...which is why I think waist-high tackling is inevitable. It
then means that YC/RC go back to being for professional fouls
and players who don't make the effort to get low in the tackle.
On reflection, they probably do need to look again at
situation's like Curry's red, though. I felt that he misjudged
where Mallia would land (and may have been partially unsighted)
and so wasn't in position to tackle - similar to Steward trying
(but failing) to react to a very unexpected situation. There may
need to be more leeway for "could this player reasonably be
expected to be in a low position ahead of contact"?

I must confess. I am getting tired of seeing all of the posts
from the Kiwis on social media claiming that referee bias (of
Barnes in particular) cost them the game.
Barnes didn't tackle Kriel at head height.
Barnes didn't injure Mbonambi.
Barnes didn't decide that Kolisi should (correctly) only be
yellow carded as he hit the players chest instead of his head
Barnes didn't knock the ball on in the lineout.
Barnes didn't miss the two place kicks.
Etc, etc.
They just weren't good enough on the day to beat South Africa.

Yes I thought the Kiwis had a no "Richard"heads rule. Seem to be
quite a few of them being total whingers, I thought it was us
pohms who were the whingers......

I disagree with only one point here. They were definitely good
enough... but these games are often decided on a lucky bounce,
or similar. You couldn't have got a closer game, and neither
team could have complained at losing. Thankfully, what luck
there was, ended up ever so slightly in SA's favour.

New Zealand missed 5 points from kicks. That's what cost them
the game. The had enough chances to win but didn't take them
I find all this talk of deliberately setting out to injure
players or take them out of the game rather silly and quite
distasteful. Of course teams identify key players and try to
unsettle them. But that's different from trying to cause a
long-term, potentially career ending injury to a fellow player.
It's a pretty low accusation to make just because you support a
particular team.
I can only recall Calum Clark, mealamu and umaga and that SA
team with corne krige, who ended up knocking out one of their
own players.
