The quote is literally "The image tells me everything I need to
know about how poor the thinking is around this subject matter."
       - where it is clear that the subject matter is the tackle height
change, and not just the image. And also "thinking" not
       "communication".
The image is a poor choice - and when it was presented at the
Tacklesafe course over the summer the attendees in my session
pointed it out in no uncertain terms.
But if less experienced players and coaches could see that image
and think that's a good way to tackle, they could also see the
comment that went with it and think that the change in tackle
height is not necessary and they are being invited to object to
       it.
The very fact that we are having this debate says that Shaw's
       post was at best ambiguous.
I'd have no problem with someone saying explicitly "The RFU have
made a hash of communicating this, but it doesn't alter the fact
that rugby faces a crisis and as a community game we have to
       engage in making tackling safer."
But a lot of former players are coming across as rejecting the
changes rather than critiquing the comms. Whether they mean to
or not, it's a very dangerous stance.

Isn't this image just to show the height a tackle should be?
If so it's done what it's meant to.

And the head is still on the wrong side, coming in from the left
and putting your head in that position is very poor technique.

You don’t correct one wrong doing by depicting another. For it
to hold value it has to be correct, because the next time a
coach picks up a player for tackling like that, they could
answer ‘well according to the RFU it’s correct’ or something
       similar.
The RFU either want to de-risk the tackle area or they don’t
       cannot be 50/50.

I think it's worth mentioning that the RFU removed this image
shortly after Shaw's (and no doubt a million other people's)
       comments.
There is quite a lot of info on the RFU site regarding the new
tackle guidance, rather more than just one image certainly, so
perhaps there a a few people who could do with actually studying
the guidance before getting upset over something that was
nothing 2 weeks ago for a brief time.

Well yes, but only the people who don't play anymore.
I think all current English 'amateur' players are now playing
under the new guidelines; I'm sure they've been talking plenty
       about it! 😁

Played two games under the new laws. One had no mention of the
changes whilst in the other we had a stricter ref. However, I
think there were maybe 2 penalties that would've been fine last
       season

I reffed U14s and U16s in an early season festival last weekend.
The approach I took was to warn players if a tackle was above
the sternum but not approaching the danger area but penalise if
it was properly upright. I think I ended up awarding 2 pens
against U14s that would have been OK last season, but the U16s
were actually all pretty solid on their technique in the matches
       I reffed.

So, were you lot unaware of the changes until you got a stricter
       ref?

Not at all. Lots of clutching at pearls that it’d ruin the game.
       Hadn’t really made a difference.
