Chelsea fc looking to play matches at twickenham

Interesting article in the rugby paper today that could have a
massive impact on harlequins.
With Chelsea building a new stadium which will take 4-5 years
they are looking at somewhere to play. This seems to be between
Wembley and Twickenham. The RFU are very keen for it to be
Twickenham due to their lack of money.
This could have huge ramifications for Quins games, playing at
the same time as Chelsea would be horrific for me. Trying to get
there, parking, 80,000 football fans and what that brings police
escorts etc.
We don’t have any say in this but something to think about on a
Sunday morning.
All I can say behaviour of football so called fabs was a major
reason I gave up on football 15 years ago and I really don’t
want it impacting my life again and especially my daughters.

This seems to come around almost annually. I can't see it
happening. I doubt Richmond Council would be in favour - adding
a minimum of 19 additional fixtures to what is already there
would be a substantial undertaking plus the pitch wear and tear
of having two sports on it.

Has definitely been floated a couple of times in the past, can't
see it flying however much the RFU want the cash

Their ground might actually be regularly sold-out for a change

"Despite being one of the largest sports venues in London,
Twickenham Stadium has never hosted a football match. Premier
League club, Chelsea, enquired about using the stadium
temporarily in 2014 and 2018 however both enquiries were
rejected by the RFU.
The RFU does in fact have an official arrangement and an
agreement with the local authority that the stadium will stick
to hosting only sports previously agreed. This does not include
football and is, therefore, the reason behind Twickenham never
having hosted football."

SW Trains manage to lay off the engineering works a couple of
weeks a year for 6N games, but imagine them trying to do 50-60k
fans coming from Reading or London every other weekend and
hosting European tourists (maybe) on midweek evenings.
