If this is true, it's baffling that the RFU have repeated the
same mistake again. I don't know if they paid full compensation
to Eddie or reached a compromise, but either way they seem to
have offered Borthwick a package exceeding his
experience/qualification for the job. Hansen anyone ?

£1.4m according to the article you brought to our attention. Did
you read it? 😁

Personally,
5 years is a huge risk on someone who really hasn’t in my view
earned their stripes to be the top boss, based only on an
assistant role and a good season at Tigers.
I wouldn’t have offered him the job at all, but if I had to I
would have offered a 2 year contract with an option for a
further 2 extension following on a review of the performances in
the first period. My option is the far cheaper one yet would
have secured him if the showings were good.
2 years Initially is more than enough to see if he’s got the
right approach and has a plan. It’s clear so far he’s been
disastrous, with no winning plan, and is probably the worst
rugby we’ve ever played with a dejected but otherwise on paper
talented squad

I didn't specifically ask about Borthwick, but would he have
accepted 2 years with a RWC in 9 months? Forget the "possibility
of a 2 year extension" because that's possible regardless.
And would that really be a good idea for England, to force a
coach to make short term decisions in the hope of extending his
contract so he can do the same again? You're either desperate or
you're planning so you need to choose. 2 years is too long for
the former and too short for the latter.
I'm no fan of Borthwick but I don't think the length of his
contract is an issue. The RFU probably covered his costs either
way with the NZ v SA match.

Where did I mention gender?
Maybe you should find someone to read these posts to you, and

On Friday on the England v Fiji thread:

“Really? I can think of worse things to hear. Like people
stating their "preferred pronouns". Or maybe that makes me a sad
old wet fart”.

I wonder if the RFU considered a situation where if SB stays in
charge and we remain terrible, attendances plummet at HQ
(already signs of this) thus revenues follow suit. Where is the
point at which you pull the trigger? I still find it hard to
think that you can agree a contract that enables you to be a
dismal performer while still being paid even after being fired.
Why can’t there be some sort of target hitting part of the
agreement.

I think they'll have full attendances for the 6N regardless of
how cack England play.
