This strikes me as a "Lancaster" plan - where he just put the 15
best players on the pitch and hoped all would work out. - e.g.
Brown on the wing
The one thing that I liked though was "practice match against
Harlequins"
I wonder who won? :-)
Also - it is good that we are playing a few warm ups. I think
that we seem to be going into the Prem Cup a little undercooked.

Smith in the current England team reminds me of Parisse in the
Italian team. A truly brilliant player whose efforts are hidden
by the lesser quality around him. I'm sure he'll do an excellent
job at 15. But he's by far the best 10 in England, so why not
play him there?

I seriously can't understand what Borthwick is thinking. Is he
really considering dropping Steward, who is the only player to
have grabbed that position after lots of contenders had their
chance? Marcus would be wasted there and when tries get scored
he will be the whipping boy. If he can't play at 10 when Farrell
is suspended then it shows SB just doesn't rate him as highly as
we do.

Can Smith catch? Yes he can
Can he put in that last ditch, try saving tackle? No, but
neither can Steward
Will he win balls in the air? No, Steward much better
Will he come into the line and exploit holes? For sure
You've already got Daly out of position, who defends like he
still in the outside centre channel, so then you've got someone
who is willing but will get steam-rollered, so it's a try
everytime.
I'm all for innovation but this is just nuts

With one of your three fly halves banned, it seems bonkers to me
to put the remaining two - the only two with ANY appreciable
experience at international level - on the pitch at the same
time.
I mean, if you want an EQP fullback with a similar size and
running style to Marcus, Nick David was available.

That is a great point PoorFour, we risk losing both remaining
flyhalves to injuries. But I suppose he'll then play Earle at 10
for the Argentina/Japan games and then Farrell for the other 2
games.....
