Overall not a bad side, No Murley again sadly.
Guy Porter at 12? He was completely anonymous in his last
England stint and doesn't really tear up trees in the
       premiership either.

The problem with that is it suggests he's not up to it on his
own. As it happens, they're all there so now there's no excuse
for him not to shine. It shouldn't be like that, and I hope it
       isn't.

So, looks like Smith and Care should both be going. Tbh I’m more
pleased for Care, he was robbed last time!

I think most neutral rugby fans would all agree that over the
last 4/5 years if not longer, DC should have been way ahead of
Youngs in the England pecking order. At least Danny in the
       premiership still makes an impact!
Care, Mitchell, Spencer would have been my 3

None of the Quins players have quite hit the heady heights of
Porter's introduction to the England team in Australia.
Guy Porter vs Australia: 2 matches, 21m made from 6 carries (0m
in his 2nd game), 3 passes (0 in his 1st game), 16 successful
tackles with 9 missed (65% success rate!), 3 turnovers conceded,
1 offload, 2 defenders beaten, no tries, no try assists
His best game in an England shirt was against Japan last year,
where he scored tries and did some good work. That was good to
see, because he started that game by missing his first two
tackles and getting stripped of the ball in contact.
For people outside of Leicester, Porter's selection is pretty
baffling. He's not one of the standouts in the Premiership and
his England displays have been at best "honest pro" standard,
and at worst "how is he paid to do this". For all the criticisms
you might have of Care, Dombrandt, and Smith, their talent is
unquestionable, their club performances eye-catching, and their
ceiling is very, very high - and none of them have ever played
as badly as Porter did in Australia (which in Care's case is
saying something, because he's had a few shockers in his time!).
Marchant's England career has been short but he's been excellent
in most of that time (depsite being messed around a lot) and was
one of England's standouts in the 2022 6N along with being one
of the best in the league for a very long time, so I don't think
any of that applies to him at all.
Porter's not even a guaranteed starter for Tigers and he rarely
plays 12, so it's bizarre that he's been shoehorned in. Having
said that, perhaps the different demands of playing 12 might
suit a player whose main attributes appear to be a combination
of being physically robust (not that it helps him tackle) and
being relatively speedy (especially compared to the
alternatives). And there's no question in my mind that playing
12 is an easier defensive job than 13. Even if he will have to
       help out Smith.

It's not so bizarre that Porter is being tried at 12. Borthwick
has spoken at length about wanting 3 players who can cover each
position. 15 of the 33 positions in the squad will be taken up
with front row and halfback players, so the remaining 18 players
have to be able to cover 10 positions or 30 slots between them,
so any player who can cover 2 spots is valuable.
If Porter can show well at 12, it makes him more useful to the
squad and makes more of a case for taking him.

It's bizarre because it's another chance being given to a guy
who has done nothing to earn it, in a position he's barely
played. If he exceeds expectations and plays well at 12 in this
warmup match, does that tell us he is a real option at 12 for
the world cup? He's started there, what, 10 times in his career
in pro rugby? This is a guy who has yet to prove he belongs in
the squad in the position(s) he's actually experienced in -
wing, 13, bench - being judged on yet another position in a
match that may be the only chance many of these players get to
prove their worth. It's not particularly fair on him, and it's
definitely not fair on the people around him relying on him to
       perform.
I could understand it, given our shortage of 12s, if it was a
guy who is otherwise nailed on for the squad in another
position. But as it is, it's a gamble that could seriously
hamstring us and could have serious impact on the world cup
       prospects for several players.
