Gavin Mairs, in the Telegraph had an exclusive. He states that
Smith has trained very well this summer and that Borhwick is
going to start him against Wales this Saturday.
Let's hope he takes the opportunity with both hands.

FWIW, in their teaser for the squad announcement, England’s
socials are highlighting Itoje, a front row of Cole, Blamire and
(less prominently) Marler, Ludlum and Smith.

No point in starting him unless Farrell is on the bench. Perhaps
maybe they've worked on the issues in training though, IE
letting smith be the first receiver and able to express himself
more.
Personally I would like to see Lawrence at 12 and Marchant at
13, as I think OL would be the big runner Smith needs.

Soooo a possibles match then (minus Itoje). Good PR work I
guess.

Smith, Care, Dommers and Marchant have all been poor for
England. They shouldn't be anywhere near a Test side

All 3 start. Farrell not in the 23
Edit: looking at the squad again (especially the starting 15),
there are very few who finished last season playing for Sarries
or Sale. I’d guess the later arrivals to the camp have been more
likely to be left out of the first game.

Partially agree, but Smith hasn’t had a chance to run the show,
Care has been poor as a starter but still has value as a
finisher, Marchant has been good in cameos but hasn’t had a run
of opportunities so I think they deserve another shot. Dombrandt
has had plenty of opportunities and hasn’t excelled
unfortunately and I would like to see Tom Willis get a chance to
start

It’s a warm up game so I won’t read too much into this
selection, but what’s the point of recalling Murley if you’re
not going to give him a chance
