“Begging” is OTT. They’ve sold as many season tickets as they
can without running into trouble for knockout games, but now
they have some available because of cancellations and are
offering them to people who might have interest in taking them
up.
That’s a sensible plan if you have limited availability. When
supply is a lot less than potential demand, broadcasting it can
be counter productive (think of how hard it was to buy RWC
tickets).
What would you have them do differently? Not try to resell these
tickets? Announce that they are on general sale?

Quite something when compared to the top category at Quins which
is £1095 for a new member or £995 to renew.

For 11 proper matches.

Fair enough but apart from many, many things I would have the
club do differently (injury updates, disabled parking, more
toilets, properly trained bar staff etc etc) I would like them
to stop playing silly buggers and just walk a mile in supporters
shoes.

As a Chelsea and Quins S/T holder, I feel qualified to comment
on the comparisons above.
Very broadly, when I started with a Quins Jester season ticket
(09/10) it was £99 for 11+3 (plus arguably 3) games. somewhere
between £6 and £8 a game. My Chelsea s/t then was £820 for 19
games, around £43 a game.
Next season, Quins is £417 for 9+2 (plus arguably 4) between £30
and £37 a game. Chelsea is £880 for 19 games, around £46 per
game.
Both tickets are behind the goal, level with the touch line, so
directly comparable.
One thing to mention, though. At Stamford Bridge there are
around 5000 tickets which are defined as corporate, with prices
between £4k and £12k (this excludes boxes). These would be
comparable to the highest price Quins tickets.
Has to be said that Chelsea prices are way outstripped by
Arsenal and Spurs s/t's. having said that, my Quins tickets have
gone up by five fold per game in 13 years, so the gap has
narrowed considerably.
Hope this helps :)

"Just walk a mile in supporter's shoes" is an easy thing to say
but whenever discussion turns this way there's very little
effort on this board to walk a mile in the club's shoes. As
TomBuckQuin says, the club is having to make some difficult
decisions and find a balance between what supporters want and
what is the best option for keeping the club viable. We've had
ample evidence this season of what happens when a club gets that
wrong.
To take the examples you've given, there's an alternative
perspective for why they may be why they are. Lack of disabled
parking I agree with you on, but for the others:
- injury updates - there are good reasons (which have been
discussed at length) why the club might not want to share injury
updates, especially on long term injuries. Return from serious
injury can have high levels of uncertainty around it - players
like Clifford, Buchanan and JTH had long periods where they and
the club were hoping for a recovery but eventually had to make
the decision to retire. It's rational for the club not to make
themselves a hostage to fortune by disclosing too much too soon.
- more toilets: where would you put them? The current site
doesn't have that much empty space, so what could go to make
room for loos?
- properly trained bar staff: the club needs a hundred or so bar
staff once a fortnight, and almost none the rest of the time.
There are inevitably going to be a lot of casual staff and
there's a limited window for training them. Under those
circumstances, you're always going to have a mixed bag of
efficient and slow staff because the club won't be able to
retain the same roster of staff over the course of a season.
Different people have different levels of ability and absorb
information differently. It's frustrating at times but it's not
as if there's a huge pool of experienced bar staff looking for
intermittent gigs on a Friday or Saturday.

The owners aren't subsidising tickets; they're charging as much
as they think they can get away with. The fact that they are
overspending elsewhere, i.e. on the players, is their problem.
It would be interesting to see what the attendances would be if
they charged enough per ticket for the club to break even based
on current attendances.

That's a pretty obtuse way of looking at it. If the club spent
far enough below the cap for it to make a difference, there'd
soon be a chorus on here calling for everyone from the CEO to
the waterboys to be sacked for it.
I think it's a pretty good bet that if the club manages to get
to 70k+ on BG and BSKO next year it will hit breakeven; it looks
to me that the ST prices have been pitched to achieve that.

It's difficult to get decent bar staff even for regular shifts
down here in Sussex. The level of pay in hospitality is not
great, a balancing act for owners of costs, and the old
expectation that bar staff are paid 'cash in hand' - HMRC have
really clamped down on that many years ago! Add to that the
swift realisation that bar work is hard and it is not surprising
there is huge turnover and few regulars who know what they are
doing.

"Overspending on players" is an interesting view. They pay what
they have to pay to keep the squad we have. They could try
paying less, but then we'd likely lose our top players. How do
you think that would pan out?
