TMO Bottles It

This happened in the final today. I love the new law where all
the on field ref has to do is work out "was there foul play?".
If there was, he immediately yellow cards the offender and
leaves it to the TMO to decide yellow or red. If red, he can be
replaced after 20 minutes off the pitch (so red doesn't mean the
end of the game for one side). Saves all that Wayne Barnes
staring at never ending replays kind of stuff, you just get on
with the game.
However, look at this and tell me the recipient of the ball was
ducking down, the reason the TMO gave for not making it a red.
Clearly rubbish.

Clear red.
Both players should have a concussion check.

Just listening to the words the ref uses....foul play, direct
head on head contact, no mitigation. I can't think of a single
scenario where that equals a Yellow card. Just a disgrace

Well the TMO Bunker obviously overrides the Ref. Bizarre.

Not the ref's fault though.

It was no better in the World U20 Championship.
Irish player sidesteps england player and smashes into a n other
england player who didn't even know what hit him. England player
yellow carded for not trying to make a tackle or dipping.
England player didn't know that the Irish player was going to
side step his team mate and run straight into him.
Later in the game Irish player runs recklessly head first into
england player with ball, and nearley knocks him self out. Irish
team are going mad and say it's all the England players fault
and are shocked when their player is shown a straight red!

Disagree on the Fisilau yellow. It seemed the minimum
requirement. I'm not sure the step was a mitigating factor and I
can just about get behind the "passive" nature of the tackle
stopping it being a red but wouldn't really have complained if
it was red. The Irish one was a stone cold red.

I'm with QP, I'm afraid Rob. The English player was going into
the contact area and wasn't dipped for the tackle, but the
mitigation was the sudden change of direction. I think a yellow
was the right call but given how the framework is being refereed
I couldn't have objected to a red.
The Irish red was spot on, though, even though their player came
off worse. The ball carrier was legal even under the waist
tackling rules (which aren't in force at U20 yet, I think).

It's not like the step was last millisecond and the England
player was watching & covering that channel for precisely that
reason. He just went and made a tackle without trying to lower
his body height (which would've been required for the contact
area, too). Just lazy.
