32's not that old for a lock (Lawes is 34, for example) but I
won't pretend his fitness record isn't the biggest concern with
Launch. He's a year older than Lewies. If he stays fit he could
easily play to 35+ I think, but that's always hard to predict -
George Kruis retired at 32 after all. Horwill turned up
similarly seasoned and retired at 34. Tough one to predict.

Yeah I think the best we can hope for is a couple of seasons
from him with minimal injury problems. I'd be pretty happy with
that.

This is a really good point especially when you consider that we
occasionally pick a lock at 6. The following is absolutely
massive and allows the line out still to work and carry CCS and
WEv / Chis / Lawday on the bench
4 Launchbury
5 Herbst
6 Lewies
7 Kenningham
8 Dombrandt
Complements our usual fastball style quite nicely and makes us a
much better team through the bad pitches in winter.

Likely London Scottish will have a better season than last with
players keeping fresh in the Championship!

Simon Shaw played until 40, but he's an exception.
I really hope Launch gets plenty of game time, but the benefit
of also having Irne is that we don't have to rely on either of
them and can easily rotate.

Agreed. I think the Italians are more focused on wherever their
players are getting good game time.
At this stage Lamb’s just been called up to Italy’s extended RWC
squad. I rate him and would back him to impress, but a) he might
not make the cut and b) I don’t see there being a particularly
pressing need for him to play in Italy if he’s starting on a
regular basis for us.

Yup, and while Launchbury is a power lock, his point of
difference is his engine and his overall skill level. Herbst is
still going to be our physically strongest lock.

I think that type of lock are generally a "special" breed.
They're a bit like hookers, with slower thinking but longer
legs.
