Launchbury should be a brilliant addition overall. However, he’s
not much of a lineout jumper.
Herbst is similar in that sense so I don’t see them being paired
together.
I think it’s more likely Launchbury partners with Lewies or
Lamb.
That also influences our back row selection, as we really need a
good jumping option. We’ve got a great set of back rowers now,
but with the exception of Kenningham, none are notably good
lineout jumpers. I could see him getting picked at 7 more often
than not for that reason. I prefer Evans, but I don’t think
there’s much between the two.
As a slight caveat - CCS looks like he has the
height/athleticism to be a good jumper, I just haven’t seen him
doing it so I don’t know whether he’s good or not yet.

On the subject of Launchbury, I really hope he works out for us.
It wasn't that long ago that many of us were pleased at the
signing of Nick Kennedy...

Slight difference in quality, no? Launchbury is one of the best
English locks of the last 15 years. He's no longer at his peak
but he's still a very good player. The concern is durability, I
don't think he'll pack it in after a season to go into
coaching...

I think the rotation opportunity in the row is what they'll look
for, so that both Launch and big Irn get their game time
managed, keeping them as fresh as possible and if one does go
down or an international call up, you've got the safety net
there. You can do the same with Lewies, Hammond & Dino and we
should then not have a week point. If Dino stays with Italy then
Hammond get's more game time so a win win for me.
Back row, more of a conundrum. Dommers starts when available and
you can rotate the 6s & 7s around, almost horses for courses.
Agree about Kenningham and the extra lineout option and would
like Dommers to be there as well, rather than in the line as we
were too predictable this season. Would still like to see Matas
get more game time, I think he'll be a great player.
Still feels like a 1st world problem, though

Honestly, given Italy seem keen to bring their national team
players from England over to Italy, I don't expect Dino to stay
with us long term any more , unfortunately

Big difference in quality. But both near the end of their
careers, and Kennedy's time at Quins was less than inspiring,
due in part to injury.

The squad we have means that, if our hand isn’t forced by
injury, the coaches can perm the back 5 of the scrum a number of
ways.
The spectrum at lock runs something like this:
[Eats babies] Herbst - Launchbury - Lamb - Jurevicius - Lewies -
Hammond [Shares hair gel with wings]
And in the back row it’s more like:
[Would be daft to pick them anywhere other than 8] Dombrandt -
Chisholm - Trenholm - Cunningham-South - Lawday - Wallace -
Kenningham - Evans [Would be daft to pick them anywhere other
than 7]
(Awaits [Would be daft to pick them at all] jibe about poor old
Archie White)
The combination you’d want to put out against Sale would skew
towards the heavy mob, the combination for, say, Gloucester
might lean towards pace and pilfering ability. I can see
Kenningham being a regular in the XXIII even if not a starter
because of his versatility, but equally I can see sides being
picked to put specific skills on the pitch.

Is that right? Not saying it isn't, but Allan has just moved to
France, I think Capuozzo is in France too. Lamb might well move
to Italy, but if he's a fringe international player, would he
move to a potentially weaker club
