Really interested to see if WEv is a beneficiary of CCS joining.
I think all of us agree that WEv is a top-tier defensive 'dog'
of a 7 and has developed some really nice link play in attack
too, but the one thing he'll never be is a lineout option. Now
that CCS is an option at 6, does that open the door for WEv to
sustain a run at 7 and focus on making an absolute mess of the
oppo's ruck speed and continuity? I suspect it could...

I think our view of the best XV will change over the course of
the season. We can't expect the new players to integrate
immediately and we will probably moan about them until they
suddenly click halfway through the season...
My view of the best XV, everyone fit, would be:
Marler Riley Collier [Riley is edging ahead of Walker, and a fit
Collier is probably still our best scrummager]
Lamb Lewies [Launchbery is a great addition but realistically at
this stage of his career he's an experienced backup option.
Besides, I think Lamb is turning into an excellent enforcer and
all round nuisance, as Italy have noticed]
Kenningham Evans [The best choice of flankers will vary by
opposition, but at the start of the season this is what I'd go
with]
Dombrandt
Care Smith [Assuming the rumours are wrong, and that Jarrod
Evans is not quite as excellent as his Welsh fans would have us
believe]
Murley Esterhuizen Northmore Lynagh [Joseph may overtake
Northmore but will need time to settle]
Green [Harsh on David, who's been great, but a fully fit Green
adds an extra level of security and power]

The really worrying thing about this post is that nobody has
been able to give a definitive ‘he’s back in training’ response.
The silence is very worrying for his future, is it game over-
please no!

Funny how people aren't mentioning Herbst. Paired with Lamb he's
been a real performer. Lewies looks great when he plays, but is
that because we so rarely see him?

I will be hugely surprised if we signed Launchbury as a bench
player. He's a 32 year old with a huge amount of international
experience.

That really is some squad we have now. My only concern is with
six fewer games next season, how are we going to give them all
decent game time to keep them match fit/sharp? With less chance
of injury potentially, due to reduced games it’s going to be the
kind of problem we haven’t seen in many many years.

If James Chisholm hopefully/finally overcomes his injury
problems and comes back and plays like we know he can, then he
is my starter at 6, alongside Evans and Dommers. The bloke just
gives us so much go forward and physicality, which we really
seemed to miss last season.

Yes Herbst has been excellent. Adding Launchbury, means we have
two big second rows, and two to three more athletic types,
Lewies, Hammond and Lamb.
At times last season Herbst looked out on his feet, his effort
is super high (especially enjoyed his ref tackle) but he needs
help and hopefully Launbury will help.
Loving the LI signings. Real quality added to the squad.
