Best starting XV next season

Now the signings have been announced, I was reflecting on what
might our best starting XV (plus replacements) next season.
If everyone was fit (big ask I know) and settled in, I'm
thinking something like:
Marler, Walker/Riley, Lewis, Launchbury, Lewies,
Cunningham-South, Evans W, Dombrandt, Care, Smith, Esterhuizen,
Joseph, Lynagh, Murley, David/Green
Replacements Baxter, Riley/Walker, Collier/Kerrod, Lamb/Herbst,
Kenningham, Porter, Evans J, Northmore
Pretty tasty actually.

Pretty much this but I’d maybe start Collier. He always was
great starting as he gave a solid platform with Joe in the scrum

Agree with MQ, Collier deserves the starting spot. I expect
Northmore will start the season as 1st choice outside centre and
I think Kenningham starts ahead of Evans for me.
Interesting to see the balance of the back three as the coaching
staff didn’t seem overly convinced by Lynagh (and Murley is
nailed on) when he was fit so will be interesting to see if one
of Green/David start on one wing if both are fit

I don’t think there’s anything to suggest the coaching team
isn’t ‘overly convinced’ by Lynagh. I think it was simply a case
of him being slowly re-introduced after a long injury.
Personally, I think we’ve forgotten how good he can be and he
(along with hopefully Green) will rip it up next season.

Is Tyrone back in full training now?

Genuine strength in depth is going to drive fierce competition
for places.
In the backrow I think Dombrandt is the only nailed on starter.
Now we've signed CCS this will no doubt be the season we see a
fully fit Chis.... that'll be some battle for the 6 shirt as
will Evans and Kenningham at openside.
Lock pairing will be interesting. I'd argue Lamb deserves a
starting spot given his all round game and consistency of
performance. But our lineout looks vulnerable without Lewies so
suspect he'll get the nod alongside Launchbury, particularly in
the big games.
I'd be looking to go into the season with Riley as first choice
hooker.
An area of concern would be 12. If Andre is out we don't have
another player in the same mould. As good as Will Joseph is, a
crash ball centre might of given us a more rounded squad.
Hopefully the new recruits in the pack will mean less of a
burden for Andre and his understudy to punch the holes.

Louis is still very inexperienced, which is easily forgotten
given his meteoric rise. He has loads to learn still, but he's a
superb talent with a lot going for him. He's also a big lad,
which helps!
Loving the look of the squad now.
We have a serious set of back three players:
Murley
Lynagh
Green
David
Cleaves
with Beard*, Northmore, Joseph all comfortable on the wing too
(you could argue Beard is still primarily a wing)
That means we've got a great selection when everyone's fit, and
when the inevitable injury run happens, we've also got enough
cover in every back 3 position.
For outside centre we have Northmore & Joseph as the likely
frontrunners, plus Beard or Anyanwu or Bradley or Hyde.
Bit light at 12 still but we'll get at least one more season out
of Esterhuizen and the younger options are all super exciting
players. I'm assuming Jarrod Evans isn't a genuine option there.
10 - Smith! Evans! Edwards! Benson! Great stuff.
9 - Care! Porter! HALLELUJAH WE HAVE A QUALITY 9 WHO ISN'T DANNY
CARE! Gjaltema :( Clare
7 - Evans, Kenningham, Lawday at a pinch
8 - Dombrandt, CCS, Chisholm-if-fit, Lawday
6 - CCS, Lawday, Kenningham
(plus any of the more likely youngsters breaking through)
locks - Lewies-if-fit, Launchbury-if-fit, Lamb, Herbst, Hammond,
Jurevicius - great mix of athleticism and bulk, and most of them
a good age profile too
Props - Marler, Collier, Els, Baxter, Lewis, Kerrod,
Garcia-Botta, Chawatama - Marler and Collier the best options
but Baxter learning fast, Lewis obviously pretty good, Kerrod
reliable, Chawatama a solid option, Els a talent, and an
Argentinian mascot to keep them all amused
Hooker - Walker, Riley, Musk, Head - still a bit of a problem
position but a) only because of our lineout, and b) it often
seems to be an issue with comms / the locks, as when Lewies
plays it's fine). Riley seems like he has the highest ceiling
but they all have something going for them, and Walker's
physicality has been huge for us.
It's the most exciting squad we've had in a long time. We've
lost a number of big players but we've either successfully
covered for them or beefed up in other problem areas. And
there's evidence of a lot of joined-up thinking here;
particularly with Evans replacing Allan, Launchbury's arrival,
and CCS being added.

And by a long way, I'd say. We've improved by players coming
through turning out to be much better than they might have been
and the odd big signing but this is the biggest obvious upgrade
I can remember (not sure my memory is a great judge, though).

I'm assuming that Anyanwu and Hyde will get more game time next
season, and probably at inside centre given the depth at OC.
They're both interesting prospects. They give away a little
power to Andre (but then again, who doesn't?) but Anyanwu looks
to be faster and Hyde has looked very tidy when I've seen him
play.
The key thing for me though is that we've added a decent amount
of depth, which lessens the risk of missing a critical mass of
big carriers like we did early in the season. If the new players
gel well, it's a pretty rounded squad with plenty of options.

First team:
Marler, Walker, Lewis / Collier, Launchbury, Lewies, Kenningham,
Evans W, Dombrandt
Care, Smith, Murley, Esterhuizen, Joseph, Lynagh, Green T
Riley, Baxter, Collier / Lewis, Lamb, CCS, Porter, Evans J,
Northmore
Which still gets us a second string of:
Kerrod, Head, Chawatama, Hammond, Herbst, Chisholm, Wallace,
Lawday
Gjaltema, Edwards, Cleaves, Anyanwu, Hyde, Beard, David
Musk, SGB, Els, Jurevicius, White, Clare, Benson, Slevin
Bradley / Zhang / Anderson + all the u20 internationals to add
to that too. Never been stronger or deeper and should compete
for a premiership.
