Think it may have been mentioned here but the 10,000 capacity
isn't plucked from PRL's bums. It seems to based on DCMS safety
rules that come in for stadia over that size (although smaller
for Prem football).

The thought strikes me ( I know, I'll have to go and have a lie
down now) that this group of American Baseball/basketball
players might just be waiting for Irish's debts to disappear so
they can pick up the pieces cheaply...

I think that there was some sort of condition in the t+cs of the
loan that limited the amount of money that someone could inject
into the club.
But - I doubt that we have access to those t+cs.

The problem is - if you exclude Hazelwood (which - I hope is
completely separate from the playing side), then there isn't
really anything to pick up.
You will tick up a club that has no players, coaches or admin
staff that are also effectively homeless and, if ring-fencing
come in, are probably stuck in the lower leagues.
So - all they are buying is the club name/badge.

I wonder if they have considered calling Ocean Finance and
converting all of their debts into one easy monthly repayment.

Something I have been droning on about for ages.
Premiership clubs - in fact, any club - should be an independent
commercially viable company. No sugar daddies, no mystery
benefactors. What level they would be playing at after the shake
out - who knows?

Sounds easy - but, there is nothing stopping a company from
being a major sponsor and pumping money in that way (e.g. Exeter
Chiefs / SW Comms)
I prefer the way that it operates in the lower leagues in France
where the clubs need to submit a business plan which has to be
approved before they can get a license to participate.

Exeter and Leicester both own their grounds and have previously
been strong financially (as far as any club is) so was it to
avoid getting into a downward spiral and just prudent economics?
I would be more worried for Newcastle and Sale; Newcastle with
perennially low gates and Sale being tenants I understand (can
you confirm Yareet)?
Is it time to remove the 10,000 capacity rule, and hence the
DCMS H&S legal protections, and bring in formal promotion /
relegation with annual financial checks for all clubs similar to
the French system? Maintain a salary cap for the top division to
avoid an arms race as far as possible (debateable how effective
it currently is with certain clubs) and let market forces
decide. The RFU must step up and make some tough choices in the
very near future if the game is to survive as a professional
sport.
