Looks like a tragedy in the making by Wednesday for London
Irish. The Prem needs a complete overhaul.
The impact of what the owners of Saracens did, and the
subsequent unaffordable wage inflation other teams had to make
as player expectations changed, continues its destructive path.
I don’t understand why ‘that’ isn’t mentioned more regularly.
I really hope there’s a last minute reprieve for Irish - they’ve
been magnificent this season.

Had a long chat with a L Irish fan recently and he told me a
couple of things that aren’t immediately obvious in the press
coverage:
- Apparently the deadline for season ticket renewal is 31 May,
and this is the same as the RFU deadline and many season ticket
holders have delayed their renewal because of the RFU deadline.
- L Irish is the only Prem club being asked to demonstrate that
they have sufficient funds to run the club for the full 23/25
season, and there’s a more than a hint of bitterness about this.

My understanding is that Irish's owner has plenty of money but
wants out, hence trying to sell club (and £30m of debt with it)
for a £1 fee. So I'm assuming the RFU want confirmation of funds
from the new source/buyer, whoever it may be. I imagine that
would be the same for any ownership transfer across the league?!
But essentially all clubs are in a similar situation, money men
funding things until they decide they no longer will... All
clubs generate varying amounts of revenue, but none would be
able to survive without the money men at the top.

In fairness, no-one else has been struggling to pay their
players.

Interesting. I heard it was required for all clubs to do this by
the end of April. Irish were the only club who didn’t.

Sports fans are often utterly delusional in support for their
team in spite of all the evidence.

I anticipate a blame game from the Irish supporters which the
owner will be happy to play out.

It's a sad situation, but ultimately Crossan has grown tired of
hemorrhaging money and he is well within his rights to want to
safe guard his own financial future. The RFU are right (had to
sit down for a second) to want to put a deadline on things, to
avoid a mid season shambles, as well as giving players the best
opportunity possible to protect their own interests.
The moral of the story is if you have no assets in your own
ground, you aren't an attractive proposition for a takeover when
you bleed money, and the money will always run out one day.
Ultimately no club is safe, but its not a massive surprise LI
are in this mess.

Thing is, if I was a potential buyer looking at Quins, what
would put me off is that the Rugby Club does not own anything.
