(M)arsole's unhealthy obsession with Quins is clearly eating
away at him (he's the same on Planet Rugby), why else would the
trophy-hunter spend every day on here since Salarycens bought
their last trophy?

development, success and a desire to play for England then
Saracens offers a much better overall proposition to achieve
those aims than Harlequins does. You see, you think it's only
about money that motivates players and this is where you always
go wrong when trying to understand why Saracens win and, in this
case, why players would want to join them. Tizard is a smart
player which is one of the main reasons Saracens were interested
in him, and of course why he was interested in joining Saracens.
It wouldn't have been a difficult sell to convinced a 20 year
old Tizard that a future at Saracens would be a more successful
future than a future with Harlequins.

So not even a tiny little bit of proof for the quite incredible
claim that Saracens signed Tizard well before Quins won the
league, ie something like a year before he was announced as a
signing by Saracens?
What a shock.
Still waiting on that podcast link, too.

This thread is getting boring..... I wish Marsile would be
quiet. Opposing fans (who come in peace and are constructive)
are always welcome on this forum. But some of these comments are
a bit over the top !

(without Saracens in it of course). It was his first year out of
the academy and he was 20/21 years old. I doubt he would have
been on big money. Meanwhile, Saracens had moved a lot of locks
off their playing roster including Skelton, Kruis, and Kpoku
with Swinson also leaving before Tizard would join which clearly
freed up a big chunk of budget. Seeing as post rationalised
hindsight appears to be the only currency at play on this thread
now, we can say that Tizard was spot on to leave Quins and join
Saracens wasn't he.

Sorry, we didn't realise, so remind us again why wasn't Saracens
in it ... !!!

On the Tizzard signing, I believe Sarries did get in with him
before he had his barnstorming season.
However this means sarries threw a big offer at a rivals Academy
player who was a bit of a unknown.
Was it that big?
Quins say they couldn't match sarries offer, Quins would of had
the Homegrown player credit allowance, meaning they could pay
him 50K outside of the cap.
Quins were on top of the world when Tizard decided to leave, of
course we will never know the whole story as he would never come
out and say that he hated being at quins or he just left because
sarries offered him a huge wedge and a house.
But from what we do know is Quins had 50K wiggle room and still
couldn't keep ahold of Tizzard.
This smells like sarries throwing money around rather than the
whole "oh its the club, coaches and culture that get us
players."
Also on the post by 22 Dropout
I believe things like this are still going on and retirement
funds stuffed with rand are waiting for the loyal starts of
sarries.
The most common response i get is "they wouldn't risk it", why?
They still have a trophy cabinet full of tainted silverware.
They still have a squad the league envy's.
BT do everything they can to not talk about it or to make it a
redemption story if they are pushed.
They claim they were hard done by.
The sarries boys were picked for the 6N from the championship
(and were terrible that year)
and to top of this rant and the thing that annoys me the most
is, the first game televised after the covid break was Quins vs
Sale, I sit down for the prelude having had no rugby to watch in
age and what am I greeted with?
Own Farrell being interviewed and asked how sad he is and how
hard its been being relegated.
The season they were serving their punishment they had a BT
segment filmed and televised with them looking like the victims.
Also while looking at the academy credits i found this.
HTML https://www.premiershiprugby.com/about-premiership-rugby/about-us/salary-cap/
Details of the Salary cap, it mentions it changing in 2019 with
a "landmark decision" nothing on this page mentions it was
sarries that caused it.
There is a link :
"This landmark decision – which you can read by clicking here –
and the Panel’s strong endorsement "
This mentions sarries and details why it happened, but this link
is just above another:
"Click here to read the 2022 result of a Salary Cap
investigation into Leicester Tigers."
So on a page detailing the Salary cap mostly dominated by the
2019 investigation and changes the only Club mentioned by name
is ... "Leicester Tigers."
Rant over.... for now.

Quins had just just won a Premiership that didn't have Saracens
competing in it. He made the not unreasonable conclusion that it
would be unlikely to happen again once Saracens returned. He
could also see that four locks had left or were leaving Saracens
so he'd have a direct line to playing alongside the England
lock, England hooker and the preeminent coaching team in
England. Those are the drivers that appeal to ambitious players
to join clubs.
