The thing is Quinky - besides the moral aspect, there are laws
about what you can and can't say on the internet or in live
speach.
If he had just posted once - and then taken it down and
apologised saying that he hadn't really thought about his
posting, then in my view, that would be forgivable.
But, from memory, he continued to double down on what he had
said - which is why Rugby Australia had to let him go.
I think that even after he switched to league, he continued to
be outspoken and Catalan Dragons also had to let him go.
It is a fine line between posting random thoughts and posting
things like "burn in hell".
For info - here are some points -
"A hate incident is any incident which the victim, or anyone
else, thinks is based on someone’s prejudice towards them
because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability
or because they are transgender."
"Incitement to hatred
The offence of incitement to hatred occurs when someone acts in
a way that is threatening and intended to stir up hatred. That
could be in words, pictures, videos, music, and includes
information posted on websites."
[/quote]
Well, let's give that a try, shall we?
I think that what you've said is hatred, aimed at me. I don't
need to prove it. I just "think" it's fuelled by hatred.
Now, the chances are that you, and most sane people, will think
I'm talking cr*p. But the issue is that it comes down to what
the supposed "victim", rightly or wrongly, "thinks".
See where that gets us?
Now, I don't share his views. But I don't see how he's incited
violence towards anyone. As for the comment, "burn in hell", I
guess we need to know what or where "hell" really is. Can you
(or anyone else) point me to the exact definition or location?
I hear a lot of things that I don't like, or don't agree with.
But if I actively tried to shut them down that would mean I want
the world to share my world view and my thoughts, feelings and
opinions. That's not something I would ever want. But
contextually, there are a lot of people that do appear to favour
that approach with regard to themselves.

Is that meant to be a joke or are you just very dim?

Careful, that's hate speech. Apparently.
Or you could just try to answer.
Oh no, you can't.

Woh guys, I know there's no Quins rugger to talk about but this
is getting a bit nasty. Maybe a seperate chat thread for the
morals of Folau and stick to the Rugby here?
Should be a really good game, with some good dark arts.

My point exactly. Respect for Folau's rugby ability and
achievements. His morals are nobody else's business.

All the talk of hate speech laws and such is quite irrelevant
anyway. Folau signed a contract with Rugby Australia which made
him the highest paid player in the world, knowing that part of
that contract was that he couldn't say anything publicly which
draws Rugby Australia into disrepute. He then proceeded to do so
several times, and his contract was torn up as a result.
Nobody's rights were violated, nobody can claim to be
persecuted, and everyone is free to state their opinion on his
views as they wish. Other clubs/invitational teams are free to
make a decision for themselves on whether they wish to
sign/select him knowing his views, and everyone is free to
discuss whether their doing so is good for rugby, or society as
a whole. There really is no major controversy here, as much as
some would like there to be.

Indeed. And if he plays rugby in any given game, we should be
focusing on his rugby. Not on what he thinks, or what he posted
online a few years ago.

So, if Hitler played rugby then we would just avoid his views on
homosexuals?
