The numbers were made up, but the point is that the club resells
the seat for full price and only then refunds the STH a value a
little less than (ST cost/number of home matches) - which the
STH has already paid them. There’s only upside for them in
ticket resale as long as the price of a single ticket is more
than the amount they refund.
The downside risk for Quins is that if they sell a ton STs they
get more secure income but at a lower level than if they sold
the same number of single tickets. They’re guessing that they
can sell more STs this year and the level of resale will be
enough to give them both the revenue security and roughly what
they would have got with fewer STs.
Of course, it helps that ST prices are now close to what single
tickets would have cost a few years ago.

I found it.
It was in the State of Play meeting
"It also contributes up to £500k to the Club each season in
revenue lost from non-attendance"

I think the economics are a bit more nuanced. It's not just the
ticket sale you need to take into account but also the secondary
spend (bar / food / shops). For many clubs the occasional
visitor (once / twice a season) is more likely to make a day out
of it and buy the shirt etc. spending more than the season
ticket holder on the day. These are also the "less dedicated /
curious" fans you want to convert to build the waiting list,
brand, allow confidence in stadium expansion etc.

LOL really?
Giving an impression of scarcity is a valid strategy, but to
immediately mke it clear that it was a barefaced lie is
particularly bold.

Not sure what the “really” is about,
I’m not just suggesting some major scandal here - just that when
one week you announce there’s a waiting list and sales have
closed and then the next you put a load of seats on general
sale, something must have changed.
They didn’t do an impression of scarcity, there was a literal
waiting list because I know people who were on it. I presume
everyone on there now either has the seats they wanted or
decided not to. We’ll never know but I wonder if the prices put
some people off.
Or as others have said, maybe they decided to up the number of
season ticket holders given that Irish are about to go under and
there are going to be even fewer matches to sell to tickets for.
It’s just interesting because they haven’t had general sale
season tickets in these numbers for a while - but the figures
show it’s not because they’ve sold fewer than last year.
And if you do want to sit near us, those £1095 seats are still
available…..

There must be a calculation to be made, when you tally up all
the season tickets, as to how many seats you're going to be
trying to sell for walk ups on the day. Presumably the club have
some pretty accurate figures as to how many this will be and so
it makes sense if there are areas which are unlikely to be
filled on the day to have another go at selling season tickets.

And coincidentally they just announced there's "less than 24
hours to go" to buy a season ticket.

They want as many signed up as possible before the London Irish
fixture disappears.

Sadly, that's probably correct. But once again we're down to the
question of how much we're prepared to pay personally to help
secure the viability of the club.
The club's calculus is clearly that they can get more from the
fixed capacity of the Stoop with a combination of more, and more
expensive, STs and seat resale, and the stats so far would
appear to bear them out.

What do you mean? They are replacing those games with womens'
1st team vs Quins Ams games. Home and away.
These games will count towards 1/16th of your season ticket
cost.
