Memberships on general sale

I assumed that we'd reached some kind of cap on memberships
because of the tone of earlier emails from the club but season
tickets now on general sale..
I assume that also means the waiting list is no longer a waiting
list.
There's quite a few in our block that have been season tickets
for a while which are now available.
Impossible to know for sure, but clearly something doesn't quite
add up between "record numbers" "waiting list" and now lots of
seats available.
I guess maybe the "you're amazing" email came AFTER people had
dropped out and their seats were then offered to the waiting
list so it's a combination of the two.
Dunno. Anyway, if you want a seat that's just short of £300 more
than when we first bought them just over a decade ago, come sit
in the middle!

The club said they had sold a record number 9600 and has decided
to extend the number available and these are on general sale.
No idea what this has been extended to.

It used to be the case that the club could make more money
selling tickets on a match by match basis than selling STs.
With the current uncertainty over the state of London Irish and
how many games there will be next season it probably makes sense
to sell more STs and get the money in the bank now.

Agree and I wonder if the club saw a greater use of resale last
season which has the same benefit to the club as a matchday
ticket sale.

I think it would actually make financial sense to sell every
seat as a season ticket and then just offer resale on every
match (rather than the current approach of only offering on sell
out games).
The club would then sell-out every seat to every game.
Opening the resale early would probably mean that there were
tickets available for fans to buy for every game - which would
mean that loads of seats were effectively sold twice for every
game.
This would result in a lot of extra revenue.

How would this benefit away fans needing to buy Quins/Rail/Hotel
tickets in advance?

Basically, fans could put their tickets up for resale a long way
in advance - rather than the current approach of doing it
shortly before the event.
So - I would be able to put my tickets up for October half term
that I can't use as soon as the fixture list is announced.

They're clearly trying something a bit different, and as never
sleep says, given where they are now I suspect they've run the
numbers and decided that they're confident of regular sellouts
and of the resale market working so think that a model of
selling as many STs as possible and then relying on resale makes
sense.
Given they've sold 9,600 and are now saying they only have a few
more left, my guess is that they are probably aiming for 9,800.
That would leave 5,000 available for casual fans and away
allocations, and I think that there's a minimum allocation they
have to hold back for any knockout rounds we get to that is in
that ballpark too.
Given a) the financial uncertainty in the league, b) this year's
utilisation of resale and c) Quins being revenue leaders for the
league because of BG and BSKO, I'd imagine their guess is that
by locking in a base level of revenue for the season but with a
good chance of upside they put themselves in a stronger trading
position.
Seems the dire predictions of people balking at the season
ticket prices and defecting in droves haven't come to pass -
though perhaps it means they'll have to lay on the champers and
prawn sandwiches in the bars and red trousers in the shop.

There is the possibility that if the waiting list has been used
up we might not see the same amount of sold out fixtures.

Except that a season ticket counts as a sold seat, so it will
count towards a sellout whether people turn up or not. If we've
sold more STs than ever before, then we're more rather than less
likely to see a lot of technical sellouts, even if there are a
few seats empty.
