But that's not what he wrote:
--- Quote from: Stephen Jones, Time Traveller ---
       > Yesterday at Twickenham, nearly 50,000 were expected for the
London leg of the HSBC World Sevens series. What is more,
Twickenham say they expect 25,000 to attend today for the
       finals.
       > There may be a clue to the direction of sevens that double the
number apparently chose the day of the qualification rounds to
attend rather than the higher-octane knockout stage on a day
which includes the finals at all levels of the event.
       --- End Quote ---
He clearly states that the ~50k were allegedly attending the
qualification rounds of the Sevens. The key is the past tense
used in the final sentence I quoted. He wrote "chose" not "will
choose". He's past being a joke. He's an embarrassment to the
       sport and to sports journalism.

I agree with you, just making the point that it was about that
size crowd but not the match he referred to and totally
       different.

He's a dictator without shame so probably some poor Times
underling will be sacked for publishing the wrong article.

Frequently spotted having a drink with a big name in the
Saracens hierarchy, hence his adoration and Chemical Ali level
       defence of their actions

I think a few would disagree with you if I decided to start
writing match reports for the papers.

I would actually be very efficient. I would simply have a
template saved and it would be something along the lines of..
"Another crap performance against (Insert team) today. I felt
(Insert player name) was shocking and clueless and we again
lacked any direction. Defense was once again absent, and
combined with our penalty count it is no wonder we are in the
bottom half of the table. Matson out"
I would also consider special articles on why Bath are the next
big side to challenge, and maybe a sit down with Lewis Gjaltema
to ask him if he has any tips for aspiring players as he
       demonstrates anyone can make it.
I would take inspiration from Piers Morgan also. Today ruck.com,
       next year Time magazine.
