Game Changer - Quins Women v Wasps

HARLEQUINS WOMEN’S HEAD COACH AMY TURNER HAS NAMED HER SIDE TO
HOST WASPS IN THE CLUB’S ANNUAL GAME CHANGER FIXTURE. A
CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S RUGBY, THIS YEAR’S GAME CHANGER DOUBLES
UP AS HARLEQUINS’ PRIDE FIXTURE AND PROMISES HIGHLIGHTS BOTH ON
AND OFF THE PITCH.
In the front row, Bryony Cleall returns from injury at prop
alongside Rosie Dobson and Sheree Cooper. The all-international
second row of Wallaroo Kaitlan Leaney and USA Eagles’ Jenny
Kronish will look to impose their physical presence on Wasps set
piece. Scotland’s Jade Konkel, who re-signed for the Club this
week, makes her return to Harlequins colours following the 2023
Women’s TikTok Six Nations. Vice-Captain Emily Robinson starts
at openside in her first game since making her Red Roses debut
last month.
In the backs, Lucy Packer, Lagi Tuima, Abby Dow and Ellie
Kildunne return to Allianz Premier 15s action following their
Grand-Slam-winning Six Nations campaign with England. Emily
Scott will captain the side from fly-half and is alongside
Australian Bella McKenzie in a 10-12 partnership that will look
to unlock Wasps’ defence with their dynamic attacking threat.
Harlequins Head Coach Amy Turner said “Everyone is massively
excited for The Game Changer, it’s a fixture with great history
in the English club game and there’s been a real buzz around the
playing group this week going into it.
“This will be my first Game Changer, but it’s something I’ve
watched develop from the outside and I’m looking forward to
being a part of it and seeing another big crowd down at The
Stoop tomorrow.”

That’s a strong side. It’ll be interesting to see if Quins can
put a good performance together with all their players back.

A very strong side. In particular, in the back line. Good to see
Bella McKenzie (my favourite player this season) starting at 12.
Also with the Army v Navy ko at 2.00pm it does open up a window
to those driving & parking in the Magenta Car Park to avoid
potential chaos on the roads.

I think Wasps will be doing well to keep the score to double
figures. Unless some of their former players are feeling
generous.

Quins 80-7 Wasps full time (Half time was 45-7). Wasps held
their own in set pieces, but in the loose were outplayed,
especially in the 1st half. Wasps played somewhat better in the
2nd half. Ellie Kildunne and Bella Mckenzie were phenomenal; as
was Chloe Edwards when she came on.
The sun did not shine (as XL5 had predicted on the Army/Navy
thread); in fact it was fleecy weather somewhat.
But, it was great atmosphere (1,800 there, I would think)...
certainly better than across road, I would imagine ! There some
glorious tries & great off-loading rugby. The only down side was
that Jade Konkel looked to pick up a rather nasty leg injury.
Regarding travel - coming from Sunbury along the A316 at 1.15pm;
it took 45 minutes from Hospital Bridge roundabout to Whitton
Roundabout & had to go up to the next roundabout and come back.
But, getting back after the game was a "piece of cake" (15
minutes for 60 miles).
Anyone planning to go to the DMP game on the 28th May (3.00pm
ko), there will be a repetition of this scenario ( Ba-Ba's game
ko 2.00pm at the Big Stoop).

DMP game is a 1pm KO. But agree travel for this game was a
breeze in the car
