We've already lost two clubs and the RFU have just created a
cliff edge for a third.
I agree ownership and funding should be clear prior to the start
of the next season but that's months away. Why is the end of
this month so critical? Surely give Irish as much time as
possible to try and finalise the deal.
It's clear no team is coming up from the Championship, so an
adjustment from 11 to 10 sides is hardly a massive rejig.

Probably because fixtures have to be organised, other clubs need
certainty to budget for the coming season ahead. Pre season
starts in late June/Early July

If there was a track record of American investors coming into
rugby, the RFU might be wiling to give London Irish more time.
But, instead, there is a history of purported American money
turning into Scotch mist. London Welsh - twice, Old Elthamians,
and even Worcester have all claimed to have sources of American
money that did not turn up. London Irish's money was meant to be
in place months ago - which does not just look good. In
Worcester's case, the money eventually turned out to be a
short-term loan from Wasps' new owner.
Of course, it is not just the Premiership fixtures, which seems
happy to run with 10 sides, but the European ones - and trips to
South Africa need some planning. If one fewer English side
enters, they need to find a side to fill in the Challenge, so
perhaps a Georgian side.
The Prem Cup, which is set up to need 24 teams. So that might
mean promoting another National 1 side to the Championship - on
top of Richmond replacing Wasps, so Rams.
National 1 should not need to run short - so redoing all the
fixtures down the leagues. Do you not relegate Esher and Leeds,
or promote two sides from Nat 2 and so on?

On top of that, clubs will certainty as soon as possible about
the actual number of fixtures in case want to look at their
contracts for things like game-day staffing, catering,
security/stewarding, etc. with a view to savings. I there's
fewer games for each club, the may be able to offset the
reduction in revenues by looking at how much is spent oon the
things I mention, as they are no doubt on a yearly contract. If
there's fewer games, they may be able to negotiate a lower rate
from the stewarding sub-contractor, the catering services, etc.
None of us wants to see clubs fail, but the mess that the
mid-season collapses caused was worse because clubs had to
scramble to come up with things that could fill in the gaps of
the missing games that had been budgeted in. Add in finalising
all the fixture lists in a RWC year, the earlier LI's true
status is set, the better.

I hope they get it resolved, as no fan should have their club
vanish before their eyes (Even more so after an excellent season
showing great promise to build off). Whilst LI are not one a
side I would bend over backwards for (The I'd rather be a paddy
than a Quin song is the kicker for me), financially we do not
need another club disappearing for the season. Less revenue will
no doubt impact next season, and future seasons, which no one
needs after the Wasps/Worcester situation.
That said, I'll punt down to Brentford and see if I can get
squeeze in Pearson and Cunningham-South into the motor and drop
them at the Stoop, should things go Pete Tong.

And with the pubs in Jersey able to open at 9am it would be a
great place for an away game.

Does LI still have their own small ground which could be used
for them to play in the Championship? Or has this now been sold?

I suspect that the "Americans" are trying to get something for
nothing, and by dragging their heels hoping that the selling
party "Mick Crossan" well just agree to anything.
It would not surprise me if the premiership is fully aware of
where the deal is, and to try and push it over the finish line
they have put this deadline in place.
It's the staff and players (with the exception of Paddy scum
Jackson) that I feel sorry for. They would have had friends at
Worcester and Wasps and know the crap they went through.

They still have a training ground, which is also used by the
Amateur club. But it is not the old one at the Avenue - now
housing, but about a mile across Sunbury at Hazelwood Avenue.
