I think the "50K to make a profit" is an urban myth. The club
has already got the guaranteed income from 8K STHs . So where
the break even point is on 40K tickets (I'm assuming 48K sold)
is a good question. Given this is only second time we've had a
BSKO, I'd be surprised if they haven't a good deal with
Twickenham for stadium hire.
It would be very speculative to hold the match if 50K was the
break-even point when we could guarantee a sell out at The
Stoop.

From what I remember, 50k refers to a normal Big Game when all 3
tiers are open and available for sale based on the hire
charge/F&B agreement etc. That was also pre Covid. I’d imagine
the figure is lower with only 2 tiers and fewer bars open but
obviously revenues etc will be lower too.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I've heard the 50K rule used for the Big
Game, but is it true? Has Twickenham dropped the price, has it
raised it? We certainly keep pushing ticket prices North. When
did we last hear anything FROM THE CLUB about what was needed?
Only my opinion, but I don't think anyone this side of the club
has the least idea where the break even point is. And the club's
requirements must change too. What we thought we needed for a 12
team league may be different for a 10 (or 11 or back to 12) team
league. Then there's the ever changing salary cap...

I do also wonder how much we would get from the ticket sales.
the 30% off figure would have gotten more bums on seats but
that's still a fairly big hit on the margins.

50k was a Mark Evans comment while he was still with us. Not
sure there's been any update on that since.

It was. And that was at a point where the RFU was in a stronger
negotiating position and the majority of BG tickets were £10.
Both of those things have shifted - the club is rumoured to have
got a good deal from the RFU for BSKO, because it was negotiated
at a time near the end of lockdown when the RFU was desperate
for revenue, and adult tickets are now more expensive - £30 on
average, I think. I also think that Quins tried to be cute about
how much they spent on serving staff, given how many bars were
closed - not entirely sure that worked, but it will probably
have tilted the balance a little.
"50k = breakeven" was also relative to a game at the Stoop -
i.e. Mark reckoned that at 50k in the Big Stoop, they were
making the same profits they would with a typical crowd at the
Stoop. Judging by Quins' revenue profile (posted on another
thread), BSKO + BG is now delivering quite a bit more than that.
Quins are comfortably the league leaders in terms of revenue,
and have improved more than any other club post COVID. BSKO is
almost certainly a big part of that.
