I wonder how much money Quins made/lost from playing the match
at the Big Stoop yesterday? Didn't I read somewhere in another
posting that the break-even in terms of attendance was 50,000 -
whereas the published attendance ("Sunday Times" today) was
44140 meaning the stadium was 54% full. Of course, there may
have been some income passed back from the fun fair and maybe
from bar sales (latter unlikely I suspect!!) but the musical
entertainment (Kaiser Chiefs and Masaoke) will not have been
cheap. Hence I wonder if when all the calculations are done,
whether more profit would have been made by holding the match at
a sell-out Stoop with the bar income etc coming straight to
Quins, no ground rental fee to the RFU etc.
The Christmas "Big Game" is definitely worth putting on, but I
do wonder if the BSK isn't a step too far. Of course, the aim is
to increase the profile of Quins, but would the uncommitted
rugby fan be that attracted by attending a match in a half-empty
stadium with drinks priced at around £7/pint, including our
sponsor's London Pride at £7.20/pint (also similarly exhorbitant
food prices), only to see Quins lose in a below par performance?

They did score a couple of very decent tries, particularly the
strike play off their scrum which saw big Joe go over. Very
Quins-esque that one.
Agree on Riley. I thought he should've started the last couple
of games including yesterday. Hopefully he gets the nod away to
Tigers. Walker is as brave as a lion but he's performances have
slipped from the start of the season. Another one who's form has
been hindered by being involved with England.

Ugo giving it both barrels on BT reviewing the game.
“Harlequins have good players and play some good stuff but
defending is woeful. They were awful in this game and you can’t
concede six tries and 45 points at home. Also you can’t win
games conceding four tries a game. At the moment the team does
not seem to know what it is supposed to be doing. They can’t
play like this and expect to win games.
Hope the players and coaches are as angry as he is

Couldn't disagree with anything he said. We've always had a
fairly shakey defence,but that's always been outdone by our
tries scored. This season I can't recall too many games being
under 20 points. Maybe next season we will see a better approach
now Flannery is solely focusing on that, as I think next season
will be crucial for the club as a whole so a strong start is
imperative.

The club have been unfortunate in a few things relating to
yesterday's BSKO. Last year, it was in May and was a great
occasion against Glaws, one of our nearest rivals for a top 4
spot. They travelled in droves for what was effectively a
quarter-final. It was good fun.
This year, there wasn't as much competitive interest, although
the Bath fans were quite noisy and in good numbers. The main
factor, though, is the proximity of this occasion to Big Game 14
only 7 weeks ago. It made it less of a special event.
That said, they did well in getting the music acts and making it
entertaining for all. Ultimately, though, I love the Stoop and
always feel happier being there than at HQ. I don't miss the
double headers. Big Game at Christmas is good fun and worth
keeping as a special occasional. I wonder what decisions Laurie
and the board will make about a BSKO next year? I suspect they
might try and give it another go unless they made a big loss
yesterday.
An interesting thought about our actual play is that we have
lost quite a lot of the 'never say die' mentality that has been
a feature since Gustard left. We were very good last season and
in our title-winning season. This season we have been less
effective in attack and our defence has only really functioned
in patches. It's almost like we can't really do defence in a
conventional way! I wonder whether Shaun Edwards could even sort
it out. Some clubs pride themselves on being defensive monsters
first and foremost. It's not our thing but I am worried by how
blunt our attack has been this year. And attack is very much our
thing.
Internationals have really damaged us too. Andre's injury and
time with SA has affected him this season. He will get back to
his best, though. Our England Internationals didn't enjoy their
call ups, I would say. They were messed around or struggled to
impose their game on the opposition.
Tabs is the right man in terms of his charm and his connection
with the players (I think). What he needs is the new coach(es)
to come in and create an impact on the team.
Anyway, a day out at Welford Road will be fun (sort of) and then
it will be a long summer before we are back!!! Am I right in
thinking the season won't start until October?

Only just saw the game due to other commitments. Judging by some
posters (no names mentioned), you'd think we were on the end of
a 50-0 drubbing. I don't actully think any player was atrocious.
All seemed to have their good moments and the occasional lapse.
They definitely need a rest and a reset, and I can see a whole
different core to next season's team. Lynagh and Murley looked
very good, especially Murley, and Dombrandt had a huge game.
Ref wasn't great, but was mostly pretty even. It's been
mentioned about players hitting rucks from the side, but he
seemed to miss things for both sides.
I think the scoreline doesn't tell the full story. It was all
about fine margins and opportunities taken. But it was a very
entertaining game.

Match threads are largely an excuse for MQ to make it all about
him, tbh. It's funny sometimes but it is really wearing and it
does rarely help anyone who's actually trying to glean
information on what's really happening on the pitch.

First time I left early yesterday this season! Albeit only when
Bath scored their last try, made it back to Rosebine 2 car park
and got out easily. Noticed how few cars were actually in
Rosebine 2, matched really poor attendance in the ground. Having
it so close to the delayed Xmas event last month, plus how we've
been performing, and not fantastic weather like last year, and
the club not announcing ticket sales says it all.
Poor season, gotta be turned around next year, or else we'll be
stuck at the bottom instead of getting near top 4 again for some
time to come, back to the old days!
Been a supporter for 40+ years, from distance mostly, last 9
years season ticket holder, I've renewed, many people who sit
with me have not. But it's a long off season, hopefully next
year will start with a bang and have us fighting in every game,
defence improving, attack on point as it's been for some time
now.
Oh well, COYQs!!

I always think that this is a weird thing to do.
I know that we weren't going to win the game at that stage.
But, we still had the change of getting the one losing his point
that we actually needed and we almost got.
I can't think that it does much for the team's confidence if,
while walking to the last lineout of the game, they are the
crowd leaving in droves.
Also, you may have missed one of those 'best ever tries '.
The two tries that I always remember are the Hopper try against
ASM and the try last season v Montpellier. Both of these tries
were in games we lost.
