New Bars/American Express @ The Stoop

What was everyones thoughts on the new bars around the stoop.
They seem to have been upgraded to bigger units, but queues and
experience are somehow worse?
Also slightly annoyed that they have stopped accepting American
Express across the whole ground. Seems like a bit of a
degradation in service!

Hmm maybe it was a bit of a siloed experience then. I usually
use the bar at Gate 1 but ended up having to go into the members
area both times i went as the queue was too long at the gate 1
bar!
Splitting hairs a bit i know but i just would have thought a
bigger bar would improve things!

From a quick search, Amex has about a 1% market share of payment
cards in the UK. No doubt they (like Visa and Mastercard) charge
a processing fee to the vendor in a transaction and a standing
fee for merchant registration, infrastructure etc., and it's the
vendors' choice whether the cost of supporting a niche payment
solution is worth it.

I had a smalll issue in the Members Bar on Saturday because the
prices on the illuminated screens above the bar serving area
were not always the same as what people were being charged.
Initially I thought I had been overcharged by 20p for a pint of
Pride, but it was then pointed out to me that the lower price I
was looking at was for a 500 ml bottle and not a pint on
draught. I then looked at the price per pint of draught on the
screen and it was 50p more than I was charged at the bar (e.g.
£6.50 instead of £6.00). Obviously, I kept quiet about that (!!)
but it does suggest a lack of attention to detail in how pricing
is displayed.

That's the nuts and bolts of it, Fred. Amex charge merchants a
higher fee. Smaller merchants just don't want that so refuse to
take it. They claim they are very close to the others now but I
think they suffer from historical opinions. Maybe target their
merchandising on that.....
Bar + Sports Ground = busy and queues, just the way it's always
been

This may have been discussed before, but I thought a benefit of
being a member was that the "beer" was cheaper than at the
outside bars?

I still don’t bother with any of the bars at the ground due to
large queues, high prices and am flummoxed as to how they ruin
the beer too. Too much water maybe. Prefer the brewery behind
the Blucher before and Sussex or other pubs round the green
after. Cheaper better beer.

MW, all very true until this season Fullers is available at some
bars. I had an excellent pint of Pride by the bar near the main
gate and a pretty rubbish one from the Quins Head at half time.
The other bars don't ruin the beer, it comes pre-ruined by being
rubbish beers. Those bars have very small queues though and are
generally very efficient. The Guinness is the only half decent
beer from those outlets.

The Guinness bar behind the south stand is seriously quick to
get served.
I have timed it.
It takes 2 minutes from leaving my seat to being back in my seat
with a pint at half time.
