Sunday Walk Ideas

So with a week off then three massive games of the season to go
I hope the lads get a few days off as a break and properly get
away. Watching the games it seems like the lads are just
shattered atm, which IMO is why they look slightly more unfit
than previous years. Whilst out walking today I was thinking
about three fixes I would look at as the coach and what I would
do if I was Billy.
Coaches
1 and 2- With NEVs attack we rely on LQB and recently, since
December, we haven’t been getting that. Our pack has few ball
carriers in it so we need to work hard at the contact area. The
two areas we aren’t doing as well at atm is when carrying using
a bit of footwork to win the shoulder and second is the cleaners
work since Stephs red we seem nervous clearing so can’t get the
quick ball. So these two areas I think NEV will need to look at.
Herbst at the start of the season was the best at coming in low
and hard cleaning quickly allowing us to play but we seem to
have him carrying more. We need him doing that again along with
WEV and Dino allowing others to carry.
3 - We need to have a look at our kicking game again. When we
won the league our kicking game was highly effective finding
grass a lot and then either having a strike play or counter
attack from Green. Due to the above points about quick ball we
seem to be kicking on the back foot and now not find space. Then
due to the style of play we inevitably loose the long slow
kicking battle due to a mistake either trying to run it back or
kicking it out. So I think we need to try something different
with our kicking game mainly use a left foot of Andre to make it
less predictable.
Billy
For Billy I think when it comes to recruitment we need to make
sure we have a squad that can perform certain roles. What
strikes me is how I can’t work out the roles of each member of
the team and how that is reflected in the squad. For example our
three THs all have different attributes about the park in
addition to their scrummaging so Louw is a ball carrier, Collier
is a ruck clearer and Kerrod is a chop tackler. Another example
is 13 where JM stays wide and overs whereas LN always cuts under
lines. So what I think we need is a squad that all players in a
position play in a similar way so that we can always play in the
same way and our system. We have made a great start with this
bringing in Launchbury who does a similar role to Herbst and
Evans to Smith but think we need more. A major area we need to
work this out is back row as when we are missing Chisholm and
Dombrandt we look clueless.
Overall I feel like most we are just a few % off and with NEV
back and focused I’m sure he will work to sort these three areas
out. A good finish to the season might sneak us into top 4 is we
are lucky or at least give us a bit of momentum into next
season.

I read the thread title, gave it some thought, came up with some
nice routes in the Surrey Hills with decent pubs that won't be
too muddy at this time of year...
Then clicked into the thread realised that maybe that wasn't
what you were after!

I thought the same….. White Horse (Shere), Abinger Hatch, The
Parrot (Forest Green), for starters!

Has the Stephan Langton re-opened yet? That was my complete fave
pub in the Surrey Hills. Sit outside there with a pint of TEA
and listen to the birdsong. Wonderful!

The now deceased landlord of the Parrot used to run the Alma in
Wandsworth

In my younger days, in a time far, far away I used to enjoy the
walk from Blackdown to The Noah's Ark at Lurgashall where you
could enjoy a pint or three watching village cricket on the
dodgiest batting strip in christendom.
It was a 2 car job though, one at each end....
