George, Daly and the Vunipola's are all at or past their playing
peaks. If the likes of Billy stay, it will need to be on reduced
wages or they'll be sacrificing strength in depth.

raking in extra income on the side for years, so the likes of
George and the Vunipola's don't need to move to France to secure
their financial futures like LCD or Sam Simmonds.

if a couple of the big names move on, they've serious talent
with the likes of McFarland.

Daly was a "big money" signing from Wasps and a Test Lion before
he joined. Reduced money doesn't really come into it for core
first XV players without fitness issues, I think. I'd be amazed
if guys like Daly, George, and Billy were getting reduced offers
next contract. Billy I can just about see what with Tom Willis
(a better player IMO) joining, but still..!
Farrell is only 31 and captains Saracens and England. I don't
think that it's arguable at all.

Sorry TB, KQ & Quinky, they signed new deals when they came back
up from their, laughable, one season Prem ban and I can't
believe that they got reduced deals. All were still England
players then, and had Eddie been there, still would be so would
still be on a good whack. Plus it's not in a sportsman's nature
to drop your salary from £750k a year to £350k because of the
rest of the clubs are so they'll still be getting good money.
Had forgotten about George, he takes a big chunk as well.

If clubs were really to fit 50 players and a 10 coaching staff
in £5m, then the clubs would be solvent.
If we assume that it is 10 internationals, 30 journeymen and 10
academy players.
If the academy players were on £25k, the journeymen on £80k and
the stars on £250k.
That would be £250k, £2,400k and £2,500k - which would only just
break the cap at £5,150k
Though, we need to add coaches.
But by one means and another, far too many are excluded, and the
wage bill tops £10m, total spending is over £20m,even though
income is closer to £15m - and without a very generous sugar
daddy, that leads to bankruptcy.
But like Mr Micawber, the CEOs and the fat cats at PRL and the
RFU keep hoping something will turn up.
Worcester and Wasps have already fallen, Newcastle and London
Irish are teetering - I do not want my employer announcing "we
have enough money to pay this month's wage."

Coaches aren't included in the salcap.

Maybe half of the Sarries squad are classed as "player/coach"
type roles... Their squad comes in under the salary cap, but the
coaching bill is £12m per year... plus a few houses :)

quite. It's pretty laughable to suggest these big name players
will ply their trade for squad filler money just because they've
been paid more than they might otherwise have been in the past.

But everybody knows the reason they stay at Sarries is that
they're one big, happy family. It's nothing to do with money. No
sirree. Honest, guv. It really isn't.
Apparently.

I think the Quins academy boys who are properly signed up are on
£50k so would think it’s probably a standard kind of rate. It’s
still very difficult to understand how Salarycens have that many
international players under the cap even with all the credits
they qualify for. Is it possible that they’ve done a secret deal
with whoever runs these things because the contracts they signed
with players are legally binding and could not be changed in the
contract period. Or is it as simple as they found another way to
cheat legally if that’s not an oxymoron.
