Harlequins’ Men’s coaching team have named their matchday squad
to face the DHL Stormers at the DHL Stadium, in their Heineken
Champions Cup Round of 16 clash, as both sides battle for a
place in the Quarter Finals.
Quins make just one change from the side who faced Saracens last
weekend, Will Evans returns to the Starting XV, replacing James
Chisholm who picked up an injury in training earlier this week.
Tom Lawday comes into the Impact Players.
In the backs, the familiar half back partnership of captain
Danny Care and Marcus Smith will look to control the game, and
enlist the power of Andre Esterhuizen in the centres, and the
agility of Joe Marchant and Cadan Murley in the wide channels.
Previewing the fixture, Harlequins Head Coach Tabai Matson said
“We’ve had a great week training having flown out here early
this week. The players are all really engaged, the environment
is different, the weather is clearly better than the UK and the
opposition is as tough as they get so there’s lots of reasons
for us to try and deliver one of our best performances of the
year.
“It’s pretty amazing to be in Cape Town playing a Champions Cup
game. It’s an awesome opportunity to be away from home and play
at this level of the game.
“The DHL Stadium is a phenomenal stadium, and for lots of these
players it’ll be one of the best stadiums they’ve ever played
at.”

Shame about Chis. Hopefully nothing major. I'd like to see
Kenningham or Evans starting, with one on the bench. With no
Chis we need Lawday to carry really.
Shame Steph isn't back fit.
Northmore had a bit of a stinker last week but hopefully he'll
return to his pre-injury form. Lynagh has flown out so thought
he might feature, but obviously not.
Wonder if Bassett is injured or just slipped down the pecking
order

This is good team.... but it is shame there is no Stephan or
Chis jnr.

Lewies and Chis are both a big loss to us IMO. Both abrasive,
plenty of grunt, surprisingly quick. As others say, hopefully no
major injuries. It's getting to the point where I think they
need the off-season to get 100% fit again; both have had long
layoffs but I do wonder if they may have come back a game or two
early due to necessity on our part. It's hard to judge. Also, to
gp from a long rest period to starting week in, week out must be
a shock to the system.
I'm sure Nothmore will want to bounce back from last week. Wev
will also want to stake a claim again.
My only concern apart from the lack of heft is the bench front
row. South African front rows tend to be big and physical, and
whilst Collier will doubtless put in a shift, Riley and Baxter
may find it heavy going.

Well, Riley and Baxter have got to be ready for that sometime -
and Baxter was called up to senior England training while still
a U20 and survived it (which is more than Obano did...).
Anyway if Joe is either a) having fun or b) reckons that Baxter
wouldn't have as much fun, he will stay on for 70+ minutes. At
the very least, my guess is that he would look to stay on until
there have been a couple of scrums against the replacement TH so
he can pass on to Baxter and Riley what to go for.

Very, very strong front row. Looks like a great match up. Half
backs are pretty useful too.
