I am not saying anyone is rubbish, but there are times in a
sportspersons career where a change of coach aids there
development, and in my opinion Marcus needs a change as he
doesn't appear to be improving.

So you think Marcus is improving and everything at Quins is
fine. Easily pleased I suggest

I think the OP may be suggesting that...
"Marcus must go!"

You suggested changing the coach. "where a change of coach
aids"

The original post generated some reasonable responses. It's a
shame the thought police appear to have picked up on it as it
certainly hasn't improved the thread.

It's not clear if the OP thinks the issue is with Smith (who's
been injured for part of the season and away with Englad for
another part of the season), or with Evans (whose also been away
for part of the season). Clearly, neither have been that good at
Quins, whilst they weren't there.

sometimes difficult to be objective if someone's posts can
generally be summarised as : the club are not being honest and
the coaches/management must go
I'm not singling out East Sussex Chris here - there are a number
of posters (probably me included) whose posts can probably also
be summarised in the same style

There's no "thought police" involved in pointing out the
obvious: the OP is a troll who only posts to wind up Quins fans
on the Quin board. I'm sure you've noticed this by now.
The actual content of his post is laughable. Smith might be
having some issues at international level but our biggest
problem this season has been not being able to play him. He's
been brilliant for us. He was absolutely on fire against Exeter,
and excellent in a very tough match against a confident
international side in Saracens, including starring at 9 for a
while. There is zero sign that he isn't improving.
Marcus Smith of a few years ago might well have struggled badly
and over-played his hand against the more physical sides like
Sale, Exeter, and Saracens. This one doesn't. Are some of his
kicks aimless? Yeah - true of every fly half. Has his general
kicking game improved? Out of sight - both out of hand and off
the tee. Has he become a little more safety first as a result of
his time under Eddie? Absolutely - and that's not a criticism of
him, that's him following his national coach's demands. Is this
thread yet another tedious attempt to rile Quins fans without an
iota of evidence backing his assertion? Of course it is.
And just so it's really clear, here's a post from the 23rd of
November 2020, from our friendly troll:
--- Quote ---
> Smith needs to leave as either his game is going downhill or
Opposition teams have worked him out.
--- End Quote ---
followed by
--- Quote ---
> I am suggesting that our coaching team is not up to sorting
Marcus out. Nick Evans was a great player but he has done
nothing to show us he can coach.
--- End Quote ---
and last year
--- Quote ---
> We were dominated for a 2nd home league game in a row, lucky
to win and Smith's kicking or is it the tactics are appalling
why the short drop out from under the post? the repeated kicks
straight at the opposition, and the lack of height in the kicks.
His all round game is poor and for every good thing there is 2
bad, and I wouldn't pick him for England.
--- End Quote ---
and here's what he thinks of some other Quins players
--- Quote ---
> Do you not think that Refs have probably had enough of DC, he
is turning into a pathetic liability, if he can't behave on the
pitch perhaps its about time he retired
--- End Quote ---
--- Quote ---
> Think DC has lost touch with reality
--- End Quote ---
[on Marler admitting he'd missed training]
--- Quote ---
> If that is true its disgraceful. Worrying that he thinks he is
bigger than the club, time to look for another loosehead ?
--- End Quote ---
[on Brown potentially joining Sarries]
--- Quote ---
> Hope he does as it will weaken them.
--- End Quote ---
He's repeatedly taken pops at Smith, Evans, Care, Brown - all
club legends which is no coincidence - and has referred to our
CEO as "Quins Putin" and "Rishi Sunak's clone". It is incredibly
difficult to find posts where he is actually positive about the
club in general, let alone about individuals, despite many
stellar performances by our top players over the past few years.
Why on earth should anyone take what he says at face value? It's
meaningless nonsense.

I am not saying anything specific, other than Marcus doesn't
appear to be improving and its probably down to the fact that
his existing Mentor / Coach has been with him for a long time
now, and perhaps its time for a change in order for him to
experiment with new ideas and approaches. There is a shelf life
for every managerial / coaching combination at a club as
sporting history shows, its only in rare and exceptional
circumstances that this goes on much beyond 4/5 years.
