I think that point has long passed.

Original post is clearly a wind up but this is a debate we have
round the dinner table all the time and I think is a valid
       question.
Both have their considerable merits and they are barely
separable as players; quality players that define two separate
       eras.
Evans was probably the more complete player in his prime, and
but for Dan Carter would have had a 70-100 cap career. Lost his
ability to really attack the line due to injuries after his
first season but made up for it in other ways and has become a
great coach. Hardly ever had a bad game and changed the
direction of the club on arrival in 2008 basically on his own.
His value to Quins to date is higher and is probably the best
investment the club has made since relegation nearly 20 years
       ago.
Marcus already has more caps than Nev and has played a lot at a
young age. The comparison is closer than you would think in
terms of games played. He’s a different type of 10 (although
clearly one influences the other) and is more like an Ntamack,
quade cooper or mo’unga than Nev, who was more like Beauden
Barrett with a touch of mehrtens in his latter days. Marcus’
ceiling is probably higher but he’s not there yet and could be
playing for another 10 years, so there’s a chance he gets there.
His value to Quins might yet be higher.
My hot take here is that Danny Care’s influence is as tangible
as both of them combined, but that’s another argument.

Nev in his prime was excellent.
But, he did have a period were his kicking was suspect. I think
he said that he changed his kicking style and started doing the
slow back and forth movement with his arms to help him
concentrate and get his rhythm back.
But, I remember him having a stinker in one game where I think
he missed 7 kicks at goal.

Ridiculous post to start the topic, but I’m sure Evans will want
to give all its takes into making Marcus the best in the world

A better springboard for attack never there was.

Well quite. This is an absolutely mental premise for a thread,
and I'm absolutely astounded to see that most of the replies
seem to be aligning with it.

been more down to the number of injuries in the pack and the
decision to let NEv go to England than to anything Smith has or
has not done. But all fly halves have to learn to adapt as
tactics change around them, unless like Farrell they're
basically playing for an international team in club colours.
Smith has shown plenty of times that he can still produce stuff
that no other player can, but he can't do it all himself.

Hmm. I would say quins'domestic performances have been alost
solely down to how little Marcus has been available. He wasn't
able to bridge the gulf between us and sarries, but we lost 6 on
the spin without him before he came back for Exeter...

It is not a wind up, only the truly blinkered would say that
Smith is a better player now than 2 years ago, and who has his
coach been for the last 2 years.

Now, come along East Sussex Quin. You've had your 15 seconds of
       wind up time.
Love from, one of the 'blinkered' ones, who has watched the vast
majority of this exceptionally talented young mans' games over
       the last 4 years.

Not sure what you mean - Isn't Smith being coached by Evans???
Are you therefore saying that Smith is rubbish due to Evans
       being even more rubbish???
