Smith or Evans

Having watched Marcus since he started at Quins it has become
apparent in the last year that he isn't improving, and if
anything as teams get used to playing against him the
performances on the whole are becoming less effective. Do we as
a club need to bring in a new coach or does Marcus need to
change clubs in order to improve his game. My main issue with
him is aimless kicking out of hand, and some odd play selections
which often his team mates aren't expecting.

There was always going to come a time when he seemed like he'd
stalled. Teams are looking for him now and more aware that he
might just break the line with a swivel or a step and are almost
'man marking' him.
I don't know why he kicks from deep when there's no one within
20 metres, seems to be a throw back from Eddie, I'd like to see
him run to the line and then kick or see if he can pull the
defensive line out a bit. He can't always produce magic every
play but feels like he needs to sit down with Nev post season
and work a few things out. It's probably what all FHs do at
various stages of their careers.

He's all goose-step and caprice. Flighty also. Quins should
break the bank to sign the splendid Owen Farrell.

He's at an important stage of his career now. He's almost out of
the "young" category, and with his England appearances I think
for the RWC I could see SB going with Ford as the 2nd flyhalf.
I think he's made himself a target (certainly at international
level as he gets even less time than in the premiership) but I
think since he's been with England his own style of play has had
conflicting views with the tactics employed by EJ/SB so his
radar is a bit out of sync.
Next season I think we will know what he's made of, if he can
adapt his game and overcome the hurdles/new challenges hes had
over the year. If he is still frozen out of England, I could see
him go to France where they would willingly build a team around
him. If hes worried about being the next Cipriani (not the
attitude side of things) and being a good club player but not
picked at international level, you'd at least want club rugby
with a shedload of cash.

I'm not sure we can judge Marcus on either the 22/23 domestic or
international season. His injury has taken him away from Quins,
Eddie Jones didn't use him in the way many of us believe he
should have done, and the 6N has proved an unnecessary
distraction with the Marcus v Owen sideshow. We can't (yet) make
a direct comparison with NEv as he was much older when he came
to Quins.
Happy to be shot down in flames on this one but I feel Borthwick
should select and then build the England team around Marcus in
readiness for the 2027 World Cup.

Smith is still 3 and a half years younger than Evans was when he
came to Quins, and I would say has much stronger domestic
competition at 10 than NEv did.
I would say that Quins' domestic performances this year have
been more down to the number of injuries in the pack and the
decision to let NEv go to England than to anything Smith has or
has not done. But all fly halves have to learn to adapt as
tactics change around them, unless like Farrell they're
basically playing for an international team in club colours.
Smith has shown plenty of times that he can still produce stuff
that no other player can, but he can't do it all himself.

Are you sure you've been watching Marcus?

Wasn't there a rather average player called Dan somebody playing
at the same time in NZ as NEv ?

Isn't this a contradiction in terms?

Very funny opening post. Especially off the back of a season
where Smith has barely played, and the last 2 matches were 1
dominant MOTM performance and another where he excelled against
the best team in the country despite our pack being on the back
foot.
I don't know which team the OP supports but he stopped being
subtle a long time ago and is now clearly seeing how far he can
push it before people stop taking him at face value.
