Funny, isn't it. You feed a side like Saracens possession and
momentum and they look several leagues better than us. Yet small
margins have decided this one - a few very bad calls by the ref,
David knocking on instead of scoring, a couple of moments of
inaccuracy by Quins. It feels like we've been thumped by 50, but
we haven't - this was a live contest the entire time. Weird.
Not saying we were good, of course - too many errors on our
part. But our approach was excellent and I can't fault the
ambition, which was at times matched by execution.

Damp squib to end the game. Can’t complain with the result. Time
to start planning for next season, and just hope we end the
season better than we’ve been for the bulk of it. Matson needs a
strong finish to show he can actually lead a rugby team as so
far it’s questionable.

Yep, so if Marchant drops the ball, Sarries lose a man and we
get a penalty try. He stays up there and does what he’s supposed
to and we get 5 and they stay at 14. So the moral is you may as
well play act in that situation….

a bit I suppose

It's also fair to say that those demanding Matson prove his
worth at half time should probably give him credit for how we
played in that second half. Matson can't catch the ball for us
but having finished the first half a little shell shocked we
looked properly up for it in the second right from the start.

I think what's frustrating about that performance is that it's a
bit reminiscent of things pre the title win in terms of the
basics being more than a bit rubbish. Lots of really good stuff
undone by poor basics or total brainfarts. I'd like to think
Steph would've communicated his displeasure at some of the
decisions more convincingly but you got the impression that
Pearce saw things a certain way and that was that.

We were certainly better in the second half, but we go in behind
at the break all too often and rarely come back from it, and for
me the tone is set in the week with the coaching staff. If we
fail to win our remaining games with all our boys back then it
is a serious concern though.

Also another game that demonstrated what a massive hole Wilco is
going to leave in more ways than one. Some of his carries were
immense.
