It was an open secret, and people who knew were talking about it
in private. I had it directly from a Quins coach at the
pre-season dinner years before there was enough evidence to
force even the first review (y'know, the "inadvertent breach"
one before the salary framework and the "we'd rather be
relegated than come clean about what we've been doing" years)

Not sure they would even need to be midweek games. If the
Fortnum & Mason London Pearly Kings are playing the Dyson SW
Emmet Haters at the Stoop, there's no reason that Quins A can't
be playing Irish A at the GTech at the same time.

at all.
It's OK Kermit, you'll get to see this next season with Sarries
and Barf anyway, so it'll be a good test!😊

True, but to maximise the attendance at both you'd probably want
to avoid them overlapping.

So A League on a Friday night or Sunday. Particularly if the F&M
Pearly Kings are playing in some far-off European city like Cape
Town.

I think it would be interesting to see if a 4 region
championship would work.
There is a huge interest in England rugby which isn't currently
translating into people watching the Premiership or European
Cups, whether in person or on TV. And I don't believe that is
explained by people actually playing rugby.
Also, by not losing the clubs you avoid the issue of resentment
Wales have always faced with their regions.
It might prove difficult to schedule without the club's losing
their players even more often, though. Unless we 'lose' a few
more teams.
I think the major hurdle would be getting PRL/club support but
if it generated enough money they might be tempted. In which
case I think the sugar daddies would provide the main
opposition.

Unless you actually know, a strong suspicion is all you can
possibly have. So that's exactly what you had!
Even so, all clubs were signed up to the same rules and
conditions. Signing clubs in the same league up to two different
sets of rules would just be pointless.

I'm sure that is the case, but the point about all being signed
up to the same rules still stands. There would still be plenty
of average rugby fans that wouldn't have known.

Galthie and Edwards certainly made a difference. But there was
also the JIFF introduced a few years before the 2019 thrashing
which stopped French teams fielding heavily overseas 15s and
neglecting home grown talent.
