The triumph of form over familiarity. But can form win out over
farrelliarity?

Here's hoping he gets more than 14 seconds and gets to play with
a proper centre pairing outside him.

I would be very happy to see Marcus start and Farrell then see
out the game for the last 14 seconds ...

So far can’t get too excited seeing Marcus retained, as my head
is telling me he will only be on the field if Farrell is also
still on it. Hopefully SB sees sense rather than dropping
probably Slade and shuffling the 10,12 up one

Post on Planet Rugby:
'On the ruck podcast Stephen Jones just did a number on Smith
(doesn’t think he’s a good player) and probably dropped one of
Smiths close playing partners in it (the English player was
negative on Smith) - was probably one of
JVP/Mitchell/Youngs/Farrell/Lawrence or Slade.'
Having listened to the podcast he does indeed say this and
states the unnamed player, who plays next to Marcus, said
(roughly) Smith is impossible to play with and not a team
player. Should be taken with a massive pinch of salt (it is
Jones) but could be true.

That would be concerning if there were any other evidence of it
at all, but nothing in his or his team mates’ behaviour for
Quins suggests it.
If anything, the impression that comes over time and again on
the pitch is of a player who’s overwhelmingly positive - you
rarely even see him yelling at the other players Mike Brown
style and he’s almost always celebrating or shouting
encouragement.
What is possible is that Smith is harder on other players on the
training pitch, especially if they can’t or won’t get on his
wavelength and be where he needs them to be.
In the last few games of the Jones era what you did tend to see
in matches was Smith without the ball running behind his
attacking line and (from what I could see) trying to direct them
into position on the fly. You could see how a player who had
experienced that - and had perhaps fallen out of favour under
Borthwick - could interpret that as being “impossible to play
with”.
But it sounds to me like the usual Jones nonsense. Smith shows
none of the petulance of Cipriani and hasn’t even had the sort
of blow ups that Finn Russell has with Toonie.
