Just silly pretending that it has anything to do with Smith's
       performances

Borthwick's approach seems to be the classic "make us harder to
beat, ensure we lose by fewer points, and win the occasional
game through pragmatism (kick the points wherever possible and
take no unnecessary risks)." Helps keep his job and the suits at
HQ happy, but won't sell tickets apart from corporate jollies.

Who knows what Borthwick’s plan is?
I can only see it as a positive for us that we have Smith,
Marchant and Murley back for the Big Game and with a point to
       prove.

They don't seem to have any problem selling the tickets though
       do they?
Even with the eye wateringly high ticket prices Twickenham has
been almost completely full for the 6 nations games.

As an example of how the coaches may use data that we don’t
appreciate, this info would suggest that Tommy has had far more
       effective 6N than Finn Russell.
  HTML https://twitter.com/vanguard403/status/1630593687712583680?s=46&t=O1G5jgP2R_SDewBSjpkEOQ
Yet as spectators/fans, I’d guess that most of us see the
highlight reel stuff from Russell and would have him in a
       heartbeat over Tommy.
Just goes to show (IMO) that what fans have as expected skills
of a player aren’t necessarily what coaches do.

Got a bit fed up of people writing off Smith on 606v2, so I did
a bit of analysis of England since 2020 with different 10/12
       combos:
I may not have this entirely accurate as I had to cobble it
together flipping between pages on the RFU website, but since
the 2020 6N (not counting sub appearances.):
Ford is 2W-0D-2L, all against Tier 1 opposition and with Farrell
       at 12
Farrell (at 10) is 2W-0D-1L, all T1 with Lawrence at 12
       Smith is:
       3W-1D-4L with Farrell at 12 (all T1)
       0W-0D-3L with Slade at 12 (all T1)
3W-0D-0: against T1 and 2W-0D-0L with anyone else at 12.
       Or looked at another way:
       Farrell at 12: 5W-1D-6L
       Slade at 12 0W-0D-3L
       Any other 12: 7W-0D-0L
       Reasonable conclusions to draw:
       1) Slade should not play 12
       2) Farrell is not as bad as Slade, but also probably shouldn’t
       play 12
       3) Having a proper 12 produces significantly better results than
       not having one

Interesting stats. I'd argue Slade shouldn't really be playing
at 13 either, I don't recall much from his recent involvement
and would argue when given the chance in a proper set up (a bit
like in the win Vs SA a while back) Joe could do the job. That
said, I'd still have Slade over Guy Porter. Dingwall may yet get
       a chance too.

England seem to want to setup with 2 playmakers. Much as I love
the way Marchant plays, he doesn’t fit that model.

I went on Simon Chi’s website just now:
  HTML https://www.vanguard403.com/.
       Some interesting stuff there
including an analysis of Robbo’s choice to kick for the corner
in 2015 and Tabs is on a lot of the videos too.
