BG 14 sales, club finances etc...

Someone will know what percentage of our income the Big Game
normally represents, but having gone on to buy a few more seats
for the rescheduled BG14, it isn't looking great for the club
with less than 4 weeks to go.
Rough guess I'd say the lower and middle tiers combined there's
only 60/65% of avail tickets sold, a substantial number of
middle tier blocks are nearly/more than half empty.
We know this already includes anyone originally in the top tier
who still wants to go to the game (and therefore have been
effectively upgraded to more expensive seats for free).
Think last update for the original date was we'd sold 70k+ and
heading for potential sell-out.
Capacity without top tier is about 55k I think. A not totally
wild guess would be we've sold just over 35k at the moment.
Now I know you can shift a lot of tickets in 4 weeks with a lot
of marketing spend, but at the same time we're also (rightly)
trying to promote the April event as well.
Someone with better knowledge than me of the finances may be
able to say it's all fine -- but strikes me Quins could be in a
pretty tough financial situation this season if we don't
progress to the knock out stages (and even then the chances of
those being at home and therefore lucrative are pretty small).

It's not a popular home location for many of us. I can
understand how and why the Christmas game works as everyone is
sick of being at home with the kids by then. My issue is that
there is no home area for the real Quins fans at Twickenham,
somewhere where we can gather together to make a noise. I always
end up sitting in the middle of large groups in a Conga from
bar, to seat and then to the loos. I genuinely feel like we
spend less and less time at the Stoop and I've been a season
ticket holder for 14 years.

This is my thought too. It is our big earner for the year. The
rescheduled event will likely make a little extra profit - but,
I don't think it will be significant.
There is also the possibility that one or both of the Big Summer
Kick-Off or Big Game could again be impacted by train
strikes/weekend engineering work.
Also, I think that as their are likely to be fewer teams next
year in the Prem, the club will have difficulty convincing us
the there should be an increase in Season Ticket prices for next
season. (Add to this the cost of living increases, etc. )
I also think that some of the Covid loans will need paying back.
I am not anticipating the club spending a lot of money on
recruitment for next season. I think that the acquisitions will
be very, very conservative.
Basically they will concentrate on financial survival.

I'm quite surprised the Stoop stopped hosting events over the
Summer. I remember a few years back we had quite a few big names
playing some concerts. Perhaps if the penneis are less this
season, it could be a good market to get involved in again, but
easier said than done.

I totally agree with Thesouthfields2. The Christmas game is
"ok", but this year circumstances have dictated that there are 2
games across the road with c.6 weeks of each other ! There is,
again, a real risk (as said by another poster) of one or both
being effected by train strikes too. I know that the finances of
playing across the road are compelling, but being surrounded by
"corporate " types on a jolly, getting absolutely s***-faced on
free booze in the East stand is NOT my idea of a good day out at
the rugby. I agree with the above - we seem to be spending less
time at our beloved Stoop.

Club did not take the ‘risk’ on Elton John or Little Mix. I
think for Elton it was a straight forward rent and we were more
involved in Little Mix. From memory whoever organised/promoted
made more money out of second than first. Obviously with Covid19
circulating the risk ramped right up.

Non-rugby events are also dependent on who's touring at the
moment, what commitments they have under their record label as
to amount spent in the various regions of the country, etc. Add
in that Live Nation (the company that runs a majority of the
music tours for a lot of the big and biggish names) may need to
be involved in the decision making too. Hosting the Elton John
and Little Mix shows was good as a proof of concept that it can
work. It just needs time & effort to build the Stoop as a venue
that makes it into consideration.

You’d imagine with KO just being announced as moved to 5pm any
last minute Chiefs fans will opt out
I hope it’s a success as the club need the funds as we keep
being told, but can’t see it making 55k, with that Spring kick
off, Sarries game, supporters are spoilt for choice for the “
Big game” fixes

Not quite the chat about club finances I’d expected, but still,
nice to have another thread for people to moan about HQ and kick
off times……
