I really don't think the issue is Smith and Farrell. It's that
under the previous system, Smith frequently had no-one in
position to get the ball to.
The current selection gives me some hope that it can work.
Dombrandt and Nacho know how to play off Smith and Borthwick and
Evans have been encouraging players to play to their strengths,
with NEv's "landmark" concept a much simpler one for players to
grasp (even if it will take time to learn). OHC, Steward and
Malins are also smart players who will pick it up, and the pack
is properly balanced even if it relies more on speed than
outright power.
To that point, NEv is clearly coaching the kind of
fast-reacting, play with purpose and pace ahead of set patterns
style that Quins have. As long as the pack is good enough in the
setpiece, it's got the right players to execute the plan.

Well, no. Under the previous system the issue was that Smith
barely played at 10.
If Farrell can allow that to happen, it will work - even if we
do have to contend with his inability to make any ground or
avoid kicking away good ball.

NEv said something about the two of them needing clear
guidelines and understanding of who does what, suggesting that
Eddie Jones didn't do this and NEv knows how to do it. I really
hope so. On the negative side he's not had long to get all the
backs singing from the same hymn sheet, so probably hasn't been
able to do as much as he would have liked.

In my opinion, one of the issues with the Smith / Faz gameplan
during the Autumn internationals was that the two of them hadn't
actually attended the training camp together.
From memory, Faz and May were injured and didn't travel to
Jersey to attend the 2 week training camp.
So, Faz probably had no real idea of how he was meant to be
fitting into the back line and he probably just reverted to what
he knew.
(Not really Faz's fault. He couldn't help getting injured.
But, Eddie should have managed this better.)

Did he? Looked like he had a good game to me with the limited
ball he got....

It looked to me that he didn't do very much of note, either good
or bad. No reason to bin him though.

So Borthwick has already chucked in his "picking on form"
mantra. Arundell is a superb prospect but hardly played this
season don't think he's even started a game since coming back
from injury :/

I know that he played in the game against us. He came on off the
bench though.
