All the negative posters on here, need to give their heads a
wobble. Do you realise that we were playing against a well
organised team, with only 14 men for 60 mins ? Lewies is such an
important player for us, in terms of leadership, Lineout and
overall play.
So, think again, before you come out with your negative crap.
Our team was under immense pressure for most of the game, so of
course mistakes are going to be made, it’s only natural when
you’re down to 14.
I think we did really well in the circumstances, and gave it a
good go, right to the end.

We've been down to 14 for much of a match before and done much
better, leading to the coaches talking openly about the
preparatory work all teams do for such an eventuality. It was
quite the BT Sport topic not that long ago.

Going down to 15 didn't seem to be the problem.
We seemed to play better with 14 on the pitch than we did with
15.
To me, it seemed that we took a long time to get going and
letting Irish into the game early with stupid errors really hurt
us (eg the scrum where the ball popped out the side and Danny
didn't seem to notice it) and we were then always playing catch
up.
I thought that we were still in the game until we went down to
13. 14 v 15 is still okay. 13 v 15 is a step too far.

I mean we put together a brief run of red-hot form when the
shackles were taken off by Gustard's departure in order to win a
title, kept the core group of players available and playing a
particular brand of rugby that was very hard for teams to stop.
Now teams are more used to what we do AND we're missing major
parts of that plan for most of the season. Gosh, it's a real
surprise we're not the best team in the world.

Couldn't agree more. Red cards happen frequently and we coped
with 14 players relatively well and actually shelled a few
opportunities in the second half to make the game closer before
we went down to 13.
The issue is how we started the game. We didn't turn up/switch
on for the first 20mins. Poor kicking and basic areas gave Irish
field position and all the encouragement they needed. Fair play
to them, they took full advantage.
Unfortunately, for away games in particular, this mindset or
attitude seems to have become a habit. And it needs to change
pronto.
The frustration is that we know they can manage away games
properly. The win away at Sale being a perfect example.

Interesting range of views on here. Let's not forget we finished
a place higher last season than the one before and were always
likely to come up second best against a full strength Sarries
with a point to make.
This season it does feel like we are not hitting the heights we
should be but I don't think it's down to the coaching set-up. As
usual it's probably a mixture of things. Poor game management,
the squad being tested due to injuries/international call ups
and of course the teams around us getting better. Yes it's up to
the coaches to deal with this and some the players need to
step-up too and cut out silly errors.
As KentQuin says we can deliver in the big games like away at
Sale and we should have won at Racing if we had got our basics
right. Yesterday Irish were the better side, brilliant in the
first half. We need to go again and get some momentum going. I'm
not confident of a top 4 but we are in the mix and once we get
our big guns back who knows?

A few people gunning for Matson already but I agree, I don't
think the fault is predominately the coaching.
An injury list as long as your arm is never going to help, but
our performances have been littered with basic areas. Coaches
can drill players on the training ground, but the players are
the ones who need to deliver on the field and our fundamentals
haven't been good enough. Whether that's DC's kicking against
Irish, gathering restarts against Racing or our lineout (versus
everyone!).
We're not a million miles off, but we must stop gifting the
opposition field position and momentum through sloppy errors.
And we really need to fix the lineout...
I actually think out defence has improved this season.
Unfortunately we're inviting pressure on ourselves and having to
do a lot more defending then we should.

Agree KQ, we invite the pressure and worse.
Try one. The thin line-up, in the backs particularly, was
brutally exposed at KO. Edwards, out of his depth at 15 at this
level, collected well but then committed hara-kiri, headed left
towards the touchline to avoid early contact, and was promptly
bundled out. Throw to Irish from which they scored several
phases later.
Try two. Well finished try by Irish, but caused by our
sloppiness in midfield. We should never have been in our own
half.
Try Three. Awful Care BK, that virtually went backwards, which
Basset or was it Edwards (couldn't see) allowed to bounce,
collected by Irish, score. Totally self inflicted.
Red card - game over.
I get the selection issue isn't of the coaches or players making
but concentration and mind set is.
