Fair.
I don't think there's any reason to panic, we're just not
particularly good when we're missing loads of our best players,
and especially when one gets sent off early. I think we'd
probably still have been able to win it with 14 if we had
everyone available, and that's against LI who are amongst the
form teams in the league ATM.

It’s alarming how we can go from playing like we did against the
Sharks, to yesterday. To lose to England the players we did is a
big hit, but to be the complete opposite in approach and mindset
is startling, considering other teams are in a similar boat, it
probably the best Jekyll and hyde type swing I’ve seen from any
team in the league

I think it was slapped back by Bassett (no harm in that) but no
one anticipated it and our players all looked a bit dumbfounded.
I thought it highlighted the main problem - players spending too
much time switched off.

I've no hard evidence of this so it's just speculation but it
seems to me that Marcus inspires a completely different energy
when he's playing - including in the pack.

Same for me.
And having Dombrandt/Care/Marcus as the 8/9/10 axis seems to be
the emotional "rocket fuel" that gets the team firing on full
power.

Yes that's right, forgotten that. Doesn't change the point
though, as you effectively say. Dommers and Marcus make a huge
difference in belief, especially Marcus.

Botas, Green, Lynar, Northmore, Kenningham, Collier, missing
injured plus the 5 away with England so 11 of our probable first
choice squad out or not available, add to that stupid red card
for Big Steph did anyone really expect anything different from
what happened yesterday? We've had so many injuries this season
with key players, it's been a bit of a nightmare so I'm not so
sure the team is going backwards in performance just we havent
had the team to play, says a lot about our weakness in depth of
the squad I guess, although some of the youngsters have really
stepped up and my highlight yesterday was young Oscar, thought
he was immense.

Re: Marler - his carrying yesterday was outstanding. It must be
many years since he's 'carried with bad intentions'. The last
few seasons I've wondered if his 'soft' but always reliable
carrying was a symptom of prolonging his career with a body
suffering from over a decade of propping. Yesterday it looked as
if something had lit a raging fire in him.

I appreciate that missing so many players is hard to cope with
but ultimately it's fair to judge what happens in front of our
faces. For most of the match we were a distant second best when
it came to stuff like energy, commiment, workrate. Fair to note
also that Irish really were very good so even if Quins performed
at their best it would have been anyone's game.

Yes, his carrying often seems to be just a way of setting a ruck
up as he goes to ground before he's tackled, presumably to give
himself full control over his positioning.
