Not just RFU, I (after many years of trying) have secured Wales
v England at the Principality next month...£125 each for seats
in the corner. Expensive, but probably a one off for Me.

Of course, on the other hand.
Let us look at this rationally. If the RFU have pitched their
pricing so accurately that they can sell 99% of tickets to the
retail market. Anybody who wants a ticket can get one at the
official price, they don't have to pay outrageous prices from
XYZ, then their pricing strategy is just about spot on - isn't
it?

£137 a seat is pricing out taking your kid to the game, to get
the love for the game.

Surely "taking your kid to the game, to get the love love for
the game" would best be done at Old Scroats seconds, or possibly
a season ticket at Quins?

Yes, I agree. I think I may have been premature agreeing with
A222Quin above.
If they knocked off £20 a ticket they'd lose £1.6m. At an
average of £140 (not actually calculated that) they'd still be
better off if 10,000 odd were unsold. Of course it would be
better full but I suspect it probably will be, pretty much, even
for Italy.
Given the state of the economy they still appear to have hit the
right price point, even if they do seem a bit costly.

Yes, if they eventually fill it up then the price point is
perfect. Italy will be interesting though, my sense is that
you’re more likely to get people to pay a fair bit for Scotland
tickets as one off purchases than you would Italy.
Either way it’ll be a different demographic. The higher prices
will put off a lot of club stalwarts, particularly those from
further away but you may get a few people who wouldn’t have
otherwise been able to attend as they’re not club members, first
XV etc. A new wealthy audience, maybe? The key will be whether
they engage with other parts of the game.

They used to say that the big matches of the 6N at Twickenham
were about 8 times oversubscribed. So in theory the RFU could
raise prices further and still get hedge fund managers and the
like to buy the tickets. But there's an issue there if the real
fans are excluded from the games. I'd pay £140 to watch England
vs France or whatever if I was pretty sure I was going to get
entertained for my money. I wasn't entertained by Eddie Jones
England, and I'm going to wait and see what Borthwick does, so
sitting out this 6N. If, as I suspect, we get Farrell as the
main no 10 and Marcus on as a sub then that's another reason to
keep my money.
