I'm not saying my idea is perfect, but from an organisational
point of view, it's a lot easier to manage. On the left is the
old format c 2019 season (the last regular season we can base
things on, and on the right iwhat I've suggested. Yellow is
domestic, Red International, and Green the EPCR....

Sorry, FF, but I'd prefer the left hand one.

I don't there are too many games currently - the issue is
internationals not getting enough rest. It's a pretty easy fix,
actually enforce the mandatory rest periods after internationals
so that players getting a proper break (particularly after the
       summer tours).
Another slightly off the wall idea is that the league games
following the autumn internationals and 6N should be rest weeks
for those in international squads and then seeded based on the
PY league positions (1v12 2v11 etc etc).
As for SA sides in the European competition - I'd have no
problem with if all their games were played in Europe (I loved
the chance to watch the likes of Kolisi at the weekend), but
having to travel down to SA for a single game is ludicrous.

That'll be difficult to do with the reduced salary cap squeezing
       playing squads.

I see what you're after, but I'm not sure how workable it would
be for the schedulers. Worth considering at least...

That's why I suggest holding the games all in one block, to
reduce the travel impact all round. I also floated the idea of
holding them a bit like the Euros in the roundball game. If you
held all the games including knock-outs & final in a country,
you could make it more of a tour for fans. Have it in France for
one year, shared between Wales/Ireland/Scotland the next, South
Africa the year after, and England the year after that.
If, as World Rugby are pushing for, the summer international
tours change from going to a single country (like England last
year in Australia) to a NH side playing three out of NZ, Aus,
Arg, SA, Japan, Tonga, Fifi, etc on their summer tour, fans will
be priced out of tours. It cost me £5k to do the tour last
summer. If it was to three separate countries with long haul
flights between them, it would have been far more expensive & I
probably wouldn't have considered it. At least if the
Champions/Challenge Cup were an option instead, it gives fans a
       chance for a similar experience.

FF, the Euros in football are a once every four years
international tournament. The European club cups are held in
blocks throughout the season, funnily enough just like rugby.

If you did move the ECPR competitions to the end of the season,
you could add a third tier and spread the games through the
week, so Champions Cup Saturday and Sunday, Challenge of
Wednesday Thursday and Friday and Shield on Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday and hopefully show more games.
This may well be needed if we go to two leagues of 10 and want
to have European games for the second domestic tier.
