A surprisingly decent squad from Borthwick.
A much needed refresh in the back three with Nowell and May
jettisoned and OHC, Murley and Freeman all in.
Assume Rapava-Ruskin is injured? He deserved a spot based on
form.
Well done the Quins lads, although I think Walker is fortunate
based on recent form.

I wonder what Joe Marler's response will be ? Is this an
omission by Borthwick, or is it Joe not wanting to spend
extended time in camp away from his family ?
I hope this does not signal his imminent retirement from the
sport ?

If Dan Cole, aged 35 and fresh off being demolished by the bok
bomb squad and starters four years ago, is the answer, I dread
to think what the question is.
Otherwise, can only be intrigued by how all this comes together
given who is running the attack and more sensible back three
selections.
Marcus and Alex should both start and I think we may see plenty
of Joe and Cadan too.

Surprised not to see Marler, given how poorly the scrum went in
the Autumn, and a little disappointed to see Youngs (but he was
kind of inevitable given the relative inexperience of the others
and Care being somewhat out of favour).
Elsewhere, it looks like he's skewing towards having a lock/6 pm
the pitch, which could make for some interesting discussions
around the back row composition.
The backs selection could be very exciting if he (and NEv) can
make it gel. Could well be a chance for Nacho and Unready Clam

I don't think you can lay all the blame for that at Cole's door.
The scrum went well once Marler and Kruis were on to give it
solidity. My concern is that with no Marler and no real setpiece
specialist lock (for which role Tizard would be the obvious
candidate), England will be vulnerable - but Borthwick is enough
of a forwards specialist that maybe he can meld the squad he has
into something more useful

Farrell's been announced as Captain, so unless Borthwick (and
Snapper) think they can make a Smith-Farrell 10-12 combo work
where Jones couldn't, I would guess that Smith'll be on the
bench.

Evans is clearly having an influence on Borthwick already - he
will have to start at least one back row who isn't from
Leicester or Saracens

Huh? When was the last time all the back row were Leicester or
Sarries? Curry, Lawes, Coles, Curry, Ludlam, Ludlow off the top
of my head have all played in the last couple of years.
