Simon Kerrod Re-signs

Harlequins is delighted to announce that prop Simon Kerrod has
re-signed with the Club ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Kerrod began his playing career at Pretoria Boys High School
before his eventual move to the UK to join Championship side
Jersey Reds in 2016. Following a successful stint at Jersey,
Kerrod graduated into the Gallagher Premiership, joining
Worcester Warriors in 2017.
The South African-born tighthead prop then made the move to
Harlequins ahead of the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership season,
becoming a regular feature within the matchday squad at both
tighthead and loosehead prop.
In 2020, Kerrod was called up to the England senior squad by
Eddie Jones but is yet to make his Test debut.
Commenting upon his re-signing, Simon Kerrod said: “I am loving
my time at Harlequins. It is a special environment with a great
bunch of people who genuinely care for each other. It’s the best
team culture I’ve been part of because it’s genuine and comes
from within the group.
“My family and I are looking forward to the next few years at
Quins and bringing some more silverware to The Stoop.”
Harlequins Scrum and Transition Coach Adam Jones said “Simon has
proven himself as a top-class prop and remains an integral part
of our front row contingent. He’s brought great experience to
the group over the last few years and has proved himself as a
highly effective scrummager on either side of the scrum.
“We’re thrilled to have him recommit to Quins and look forward
to continuing to work with him.”

Sensible resigning. Probably the best 3rd choice tighthead in
the league and has played loosehead too recently so brings
versatility.

Good signing to have.
I wouldn't be suprised if next season Collier is first choice
and Kerrod is promoted to 2nd in command, wit Litterick or
someone cheaper comin in as third choice.
If Joe stays next season, I think we can cast off Botta (where
is he?) and would be happy with him, Baxter and Els as our
loosehead options, IF it meant we free up a bit of cash to
invest in scrum half/centre/blind side flanker

Maidstone Quins - This is similar to my thinking
it looks to me like the plan is for
Collier to be the No1 - with Kerrod as back up
Marler and Baxter
Plus Els
then we have Litterick and Hobson - SGB did re-sign last year I
belelive but could have been a 1 yr?
Or he is super cheap..... Don't think we'll see a big name
replacement for Wilco. Sad to see him going tbf.

Replacing Wilco with another quality tighthead would be the
priority for me, closely followed by fly half and then another
big ball carrier.
The scrum has been pivotal to our relative recent success, and
strength in depth in the front row is important. Collier is
quality, but prop is just such an attritional position.
Scrum half is a tricky one. There will be a succession plan for
Danny but we're just not privy to it. We'll be targeting a
quality replacement for him when be hangs up his boots, but
don't see us making a serious acquisition before then. Steele
back fit provides some much needed depth in the immediate term.
Sacrifices will have to be made somewhere and I'm less concerned
about centre (or the backs generally beyond a replacement for
Tommy) . I'd be very comfortable with Northmore being our first
choice 13, and Beard moving up to be his understudy.
I'd focus on a new tighthead and a 8/6 to cover for Dommers on
international duty and/or Chisholm when he's injured....

Collier tends to be injured a lot so Kerrod could get loads of
game time.
Its a great resigning - Really happy with this.

I think we'll see a #1 TH come in. Collier is first class but
will always be a fitness worry. Kerrod has been far more
effective on the LH than the TH, but is a valuable bench option.
Hobson might come through in the next year or so, but I think
we'll see a serious replacement for Louw in the meantime.
