Can you explain the difference between enforcer and set piece
specialist? What is it that Tizard doesn't do that stops him
being an enforcer?

This seems fair enough on the face of it.
But, his terrible kicking cost us a bonus point.
It really was an easy kick that he missed.
And, it wasn't a one-off (e.g. Smith's kick against Montpellier
that missed).
In my view, his kicking also cost us the win in Durban.
He missed two kicks (by a long way). We just needed one of them
to go over. As a result, we were chasing the game in the last
few minutes rather than defending a lead.
A fly half needs to be able to kick.
Basically, he needs to be going out in all weather with buckets
of rugby balls and practicing for hours. Until he becomes
reliable, then he will always be 3rd, 4th, 5th choice.
I don't mind so much if someone takes a conversion from the
sideline and the ball bounces of a post.
I do mind when a player is kicking from 20 yards in field and
misses the goal by 20 yards.

He's a guy who has fairly recently converted from a version of
the game where place kicking doesn't happen, but as a flyhalf
he's one of only a couple we've seen who can get the backline
running in Marcus's absence. In terms of skill sets, I would say
the latter is more valuable.
It was a tough day for kicking yesterday anyway - du Preez
missed several from similar positions.

Sure - I get all that.
But, place kicking is a core skill needed for a fly-half. Like
lineout throwing is for a hooker.
But, I do think that it is a skill that can be acquired through
practice.
I disagree about the du Preez missed kicks though. I do think
that they were a bit more difficult. I will check on the replay.

You were correct about one of the misses. But - here were the
results:
du Preez
Kick 1 - Northwards - approx 5 metres in-field- scored
Kick 2 - Northwards - approx 17 metres in-field- scored
Kick 3 - Southwards - approx 15 metres in-field - missed -
slightly to the right
Kick 4 - Southwards - approx 5 metres in-field - missed -
slightly to the left
Edwards
Kick 1 - Northwards - approx 17 metres in-field - missed by
around 3 metres

Fair enough, you would think though that a player being
stretchered off after a quite a period of medical checks would
be a slight hint.

If that's the case it's a very recent thing. I suspect it's more
likely that fly-halfs tend to be able to place kick and have
practiced it since they were young. But there's no need for them
to do it - it's not like they have to.

Re place kicking - it seems "traditional" these days that the 10
should be the ideal kicker, but it doesn't have to be. Anyone
can kick if they are good enough, and I wonder why we don't
allow others with the skill to take the kicks. Halfpenny, for
example, is a pretty fair kicker! There's no reason wings,
fullbacks or centres can't take the kicking duties. If we have a
known weakness in that area, give the duty to someone else
before the match - allows that person to prepare, and takes the
pressure off the 10.
