Manu was genuinely concerned when I joked with him that he had
broken one of our players, turned straight back to say how sorry
he was and never realised it was so serious and that he would go
and check in on Tommy....told him it was an accident and no need
to blame himself.........What a true gent!!!

Glad he is ok as Edwards was awful when he came on .
Would rather see the kid who played U18 against glaws on the
bench

I would like to see Jamie Benson given a go at FH when he is
available.

Theres nothing to lose with the cup games, who I think we can
agree they are more a hindrance to us than anything else at this
stage of the season with our realistic aims.
Marcus took his chance when he was thrust in, as did other
younger players (Tizard leapfrogging Lamb when he burst on the
scene etc)

That's nice to hear. It still depends on the mood of the citing
commissioner whether he gets a hearing or not. Personally, I
would have said there's enough mitigation that it's not a citing
incident, but then what do I know?

Tizard and Lamb play different roles. Tizard is a setpiece
specialist in the Ben Kay / George Kruis / Stephan Lewies mould;
Lamb is a modern enforcer type lock in the Itoje mould. Tizard
certainly moved up quickly to being an effective backup to
Lewies, but Lamb wasn't so much leapfrogged as still developing
into a more physical role and waiting for Symons to retire. When
fit he's been very good in the role. The players that Tizard has
leapfrogged are the likes of Isiekwe at Saracens - where he was
clearly targeted as a direct replacement for Kruis (a role I'd
not be surprised to see him fill for England before too long).
It's a bit tough to single out Edwards for not performing when
most of the team were below par and the tactics were clearly
off. We beat them at their place by putting smart kicks in
behind the defence and I don't understand why we tried to batter
our way through this time. When Quins weren't giving away
repeated (and often silly) penalties, the defence was solid
enough, and mixing up the attacking tactics could well have
worked given that both our tries came from broken play.
As for Edwards, he came on in what already looked like a losing
cause, in atrocious conditions and having had very little game
time. Admittedly, those are exactly the sort of odds that seem
to favour Marcus more often than not, but to expect it of a
third string flyhalf is more than a little unrealistic. I doubt
Benson would have done any better - his instincts are still like
Edwards' and his go to play when unsure is to try to run it.
Both of them will become better game managers given game time,
which they're likely to get next season.

I don't think Manu will or should be cited. He didn't wrap, but
then I don't think he was expecting Allan to fall into his path.
The player I think should be cited is O'Flaherty (whom I
incorrectly identified as Woodburn on the game thread - mixing
up my ex-Exeter wingers), who was never in a position to contest
the ball and made the contact in the air that caused the
incident. Sadly, the citing rules only allow for potential red
card offences, and "causing a player to fall head first into
Manu Tuilagi" has not been specifically outlawed.
Very disappointed that WB didn't consider it on the pitch,
though. Given the furore about the Matthews/van Rensburg
collision rumbles on, and all that...
