You stated that "Any of those decisions being reversed doesn't
automatically mean a different result." I'm just pointing out
that you're wrong. That was the last play of the game. Allowed
       or disallowed, nothing happened after.

Ok, firstly I had no idea - I was drinking pastis in the South
       of France at the time.
Secondly, although nothing happened afterwards plenty happened
before. I may have badly worded it but the fact is you can't
just select particular events and assign more importance to them
due to chronology when any event changes the world. Yes you're
right but it doesn't means it's not a bit daft blaming our loss
of the game on that decision.
Thirdly, what if it wasn't forward anyway? 😁
It's not really any different from people blaming our relegation
on Staunton missing that kick. Of course it wasn't his fault,
       regardless of the outcome.

You are stacking up the mistakes and they are desperately
       annoying.
BUT we should look at it the other way around.
Count up over several seasons - since it has been introduced -
how many incidents that could have deeply (and unjustly)
affected the outcome of the game had the TMO not stepped in and
intervened. The result being the right decision and the
       offending player(s) dealt with appropriately.
The shame about this is that its Farrell and Sarries.
I think that all of the Rugby Unions should spend more money on
training for TMO's. When they work in proper conjunction with
referees they are a valuable asset.

It’s an inescapable fact that the decision was the difference
between us winning and losing - this seems pretty reasonable to
       blame our defeat on it.

So you would agree that Staunton's kick was to blame for our
       relegation?

Would you dispute that, had the kick gone over, we wouldn't have
       been relegated?

That isn't the same thing. I certainly wouldn't have credited
Staunton as our sole reason for staying up.

That’s because you’re conflating the event and the individual.

It isn't. If you prefer think just about the kick itself.

Seriously? If somebody asks me something and I'm meant to be an
expert, I should be expected to know why they are asking, what
the laws are, and give the correct answer. Of course Karl was an
idiot for asking the wrong question, but hodnett was also an
idiot for answering it. She is utterly dreadful.
