The TMO was Claire Hodnett who has regularly performed that role
over the past few seasons. Dicko's use of the word phase was the
       problem, IMHO.

I'll try and find where I read that then. That makes KD's foul
       up even worse.

I agree if that's the case. Phase is a general word that could
apply to the period between restarts but it's become regularly
used to mean the bit between each tackle/ruck/maul to the point
where it is virtually a rugby term.

Just seen it on the Newcastle v Leicester preview. Doesn't look
       like much room for mitigation.

So Farrell should have seen red but because of the officials
incompetence, he ends up winning the match for Sarries 🙄

How far off are we from all the howlers that affect games
       balancing themselves out?
The forward pass that lost us the Exeter game
The non-penalty against Matthews that won us the Irish game
The non card against Farrell that helped Saracens win the game
The Ben Earl rescinded red (which surprises me) in the loss to
       Irish
       Are there more?

You can't really analyse it; you have to just accept that on
       average it evens itself out.
Any of those decisions being reversed doesn't automatically mean
       a different result.

Apart from the Exeter forward pass.

Doesn't matter. It's just about averages. I'm sure there wasn't
only one mistake in that game and any change leads to an unknown
       outcome.

Fascinating discussion. I would point out that hindsight is
still 20:20 and also that no Ref, no game.
